An expanding time with my 5 yr old grandson, talking about patterns that we see in nature. We got on to fingerprints + their uniqueness to ourselves. “How many fingerprints does God have?” We came to a consensus - as many as there are people; past, present and future. Wow!

@ChrisPalmerMD And as a wise young person once said to me “Symptoms are signs of something that matters not just on a list for a diagnosis to be made”. Bravo Jenni!

For the record, I have known many smart, disciplined, rich people who exercised vigorously every day... and were still depressed. Some had hormone imbalances, others had existential challenges, others had trauma or grief. Depression is a symptom that can have many causes.

Depression can be a normal human response to a lack of exercise or poverty. In these cases, the solutions can be easy. Depression can also be an illness that requires a more sophisticated understanding of biology. And yes, there are many examples that include both “normal” and illness.
Dr. Jonathan N. Stea@jonathanstea

As a clinical psychologist, I’ve worked in a hospital setting for over a decade helping people who experience severe depression. They didn’t choose it. This is why mental health literacy matters.

@paulpowlesland Agree that it’s vital for now to keep a presence on Twitter - there has to be glimmers of light & hope, of vision & imagination for a better future.

One of the joys of twitter was that it combined connecting & sharing ideas & information with people within your bubble, with campaigning & seeking to persuade those outside it. As the former purpose is becoming harder on here, I’ve now set up my account @paulpowlesland.bluesky.social at the other place. Do connect with me on there if you’re interested in all things Nature. I also think it is important to keep radical voices for nature in the general conversation and not to cede that space even if it is no longer as way or pleasurable to make our voices heard. I will therefore be keeping this twitter account to speak & campaign for nature however I am able to.

@alastairmci And yet thankfully I still find snippets of direct news and astute comment from certain trusted posts, plus poetry, music, ideas that brighten.. I’ve less heart to post but maybe I should.

@wakingdreams20 Checking to see that I have this book - and if not I will be getting a copy! Also I would add to the replacement, “embodied and grounded” as I learned from your course Allan!

A brilliant memorable week staying + working @WigtownBookShop; I managed the til!! Book-buying trips across misty hills & past stunning coastline. Grateful thanks for a most amazing welcome + hospitality (a deep lesson I carry home) plus a couple of Shaun’s books… I recommend!

Evening. Already dark. Last walk of the day with the pooch. Settling down with a glass of wine and Autumn before early to bed. It’s been a long, difficult day.

My parents couldn't find a table to fit the shape of our kitchen so we ate off a door. They couldn't find chairs small enough to fit around the door, so we sat on milking stools. That's me in the shades. Photo by my father. #siblings #familyphotos #blackandwhite #photography

The grandmother tree pruned (another generation of cuttings set) + brought indoors for the winter; she is gnarled & weathered but thrives + such glorious interweave of stems above the earth; part of the root system visible. This was my mother’s plant - now I am the grandmother..
