In 1799 Grimaldi married Maria Hughes, daughter of the provincial theatre - and later Sadler's Wells - manager and proprietor Richard Hughes. Hughes brought other theatrical performances to Penzance and Falmouth (including one described by James Boswell in 1792).

The National Parks & Access to the Countryside Act became law #OTD 1949.
The Act:
- Created a commission which oversaw the establishment of national parks
- Made provision for setting up nature reserves
- Provided the basis for extending public access to the countryside
