@sanjukta UDHR does not allow military intervention. R2P does. This was not a UN ratified intervention. War also violates human rights.

The universal standards of human rights? We have the UDHR and other international conventions which has given us a framework of rights. I find it very strange when people ask "who gets to decide." We get to decide. We decided already. All nations together have given ourselves a standard to live up to. For women rights there is CEDAW. There are conventions for most issues. Countries like Iran have violated every single of one them. They are rogue nations.

Does iran have a democracy? No. It holds elections to pick a few administrative puppets to carry out day to day work but ultimate power both law, military, judiciary lies in the supreme leader. It's a religious dictatorship. Does Iran have sovereignty? Yes, it has a secure border, own army, and is recognised as a nation by other countries, has a seat in UN. So it's a sovereign nation. But do nations which has no democracy or any semblance of people's rule or free will have the right to defend its sovereignty? I don't think so because dictatorship does not represent the rule of the people. Respecting such dictatorship in the name of sovereignty benefits the dictator, not it's people.

I didn't say they are not sovereign. They are all sovereign. Question is to what extent that sovereignty should be respected and what level of violence is enough for other nations to intervene? Iran, Afghanistan. Examples are many. Respecting sovereignty doesn't always help the people, it only helps the evil powers.
