So this week in the world of farm/environment/land management/ mapping has been “interesting” And by “interesting” I mean “verging on the utterly bonkers” Why? Well this week started with Natural England, the government body that looks after the environment launching a new map.
Natural England@NaturalEngland

England’s most detailed peat map is here! 🌱 Peatlands store carbon, clean water, and protect against flooding. This new map helps us better protect them. naturalengland.blog.gov.uk/2025/05/12/a-n… Watch the video to learn more.

Today, more than half a million people demonstrated on the streets of London to call on our government to end its complicity in genocide. We are an unstoppable movement for Palestine.

Drinking water sources are becoming more & more contaminated with harmful forever chemicals - yet chemical companies are churning out ever more of them. If we don't severely cut their production soon, all our drinking water sources will be polluted with PFAS.
watershed_investigations@WATERSHED_i

Water companies keep PFAS below safety limits in drinking water by diluting contaminated water with cleaner water. As, more & more forever chemicals are made, & more water sources become polluted, there's no clean water left to dilute with. theguardian.com/environment/vi…

After the last Ice Age trees slowly returned to Northern Europe Pollen samples prove oak trees (genus Quercus) were growing in Southern England just under 8 to 9 thousand years ago Our woodland is likely to have seen continuous tree cover since then forest-monitor.com/en/the-return-…

@stillawake We shouldn't spend another penny on the Centre. People (and bus services) just need to get on with it. Where else in the city would so much investment be constantly made?

Why is an LDR writing an opinion piece on cycling in the city centre—the most saturated topic, which even has its own lobbying group — while only writing half an article on paying £7.5 million to consultants and not even writing about the children being stepped down.
Bristol Citizen@bristol_citizen

More tarmac in the Centre! "Contractors will replace the brick-style paving there with black tarmac, before probably turning the path red at some point later on" The reason given was the council is in the middle of signing up a deal with contractors to bristol247.com/opinion/your-s…

@technopopulist Rosie isn’t even in the boomer age group, besides she was merely commenting on a specific cause and effect argument Ant made in his report (which has many flawed arguments).

I’m glad this comment was tweeted and that it’s getting so much attention. I’m not here to dunk on the woman who said it - in fact, I welcome it when Boomers speak candidly online. It often lays bare just how warped their assumptions about Britain have become. Housesharing can be perfectly fine - even enjoyable - for graduates starting out or for people moving to a new city who want to save money and make new friends. But at a certain point, it stops being a quirky rite of passage and turns into something else entirely. The reality is cramped conditions, hygiene and noise issues, limited privacy - and landlords carving up homes to squeeze out profit, often at the expense of basic communal space. No living room, a poky kitchen, nowhere to breathe. What this woman misses is that housesharing isn’t a temporary phase anymore. For many single renters earning under £50k - a massive slice of the workforce - it’s just how life is now. Unless you have a partner to split the costs with, renting your own place is out of reach. That’s not a lifestyle choice. That’s a systemic failure. And it’s making life in London increasingly joyless and inhospitable.

Housesharing has been a thing in the capital for years My father did it. I did it. It was a rite of passage for young professionals and fun.
