@DanWolken I don’t disagree, but when you look at the backgrounds of MLB managers it’s hard to really feel like a successful college coach would be any less likely to be successful than some of the other guys who get hired.

You can see why someone with unique coaching success or a winning system in football or even basketball would be intriguing to the pros because there’s so much value in strategy. But in baseball?

I don’t know enough to say whether Vitello is being treated unfairly because he’s a “college guy” However, out of all the sports, I’m not sure why an MLB team would hire someone based on college success. What about the college baseball coach job is translatable to MLB manager?

@AName0284738 We could do playoff records, because the Big Ten has obviously dominated the last three years. Regular season, Missouri and Tennessee didn’t even be a single team with a winning record last year, and idk how one could put Florida above other mid teams based on recent memory.

@teachjourno I do think it’s important to work to address the issues at hand with non-revenue sports in mind (namely ensuring they’re able to continue moving forward), but it’s again predicated on making sure the revenue sports are set up to where they can do their jobs to provide.

@teachjourno Is there anything to really bring up other than just overall lack of funding for non-revenue sports? I don’t wanna say they should not have any sort of voice in this, but at the end of the day their existence ultimately does rely on the revenue sports (Football mainly).
