In 1965, First Lady Lady Bird Johnson accepted a gift of an additional 3,800 cherry blossom trees from Japan. She joined Mrs. Ryuji Takeuchi, wife of Japan's Ambassador to the US, to reenact the planting ceremony for the original 1912 gift of trees.🌸 @LBJLibrary

We were honored to present the Ambassador’s Commendation to Mr. Jiro Ueda, who has preserved and restored Japanese art using traditional techniques for 30 years at @NatAsianArt. Thanks to his efforts, people in the US continue to be able to experience the beauty of Japanese art.
