It’s very hard to quantify pitchability against competition that isn’t what they’re recruiting for. Whereas velocity is a very easy number to digest, which is unfortunate. But every year the D1’s ride their 88mph strike thrower with multiple pitches to the playoffs, but then wouldn’t recruit him if he was a senior in high school

For all the velocity experts out there… So are we saying the pitcher who throws 85 mph, commands the zone, and can land two off-speed pitches for strikes anytime has no chance of playing D1 baseball? Or are we pretending those guys don’t still get outs? Just wondering?

One of the coolest parts of the WBC is showing the casual fan just how close the talent gap is between your MLB all stars and the other guys. The freaks are freaks and over 162 they’ll always be the best, but for a small tournament anything is possible

Team Italy is working the phones today to call up another catcher to replace Kyle Teel, who is out 4-6 weeks with strained hamstring. They must get paperwork to assure player’s heritage qualifies to play for Italy. Their call up today is Andrés Annunziata, their bullpen catcher

@michaelschwab13 He is a FREAK! It is very common in Japan to start spring training in submax velocities. That is the standard there, and could be a little piece as to why they have less surgeries than we do.

Command issues should be put to rest due to better direction of energy strategies now, shorter breaker to land in-zone, and 100% full health. @TJStats I would love to see him trade the 4 seam for a firmer cutter with more lift. Or just add that to steal strikes in general

Chase Dollander sat 99 MPH on his fastball in his spring debut and looks to be throwing a new sweeper! The young righty had a rough rookie season with Colorado, but that should not deter you. He has immense talent and is working with some savvy pitching coaches now. Watch out!
