Chloe woke up at 6:45am and immediately felt proud of herself. She had, after all, not eaten a single animal product in four years. The planet was healing. She could feel it. 6:52am - Applied her morning SPF. The SPF contains beeswax. Chloe does not know this. Moving on. 7:10am - Breakfast: a smoothie containing avocado. The avocado was grown in Michoacán, Mexico, on land where a pine forest was until 2019. It required approximately 320 litres of water to produce. It was flown to the UK. Chloe sprinkled hemp seeds on top. The hemp seeds came from China. Chloe felt connected to the earth. 8:00am - Got dressed. Polyester leggings, derived from crude oil. A bamboo top that was processed using carbon disulphide in a Taiwanese chemical plant. Trainers with a recycled plastic upper that sheds microplastics into waterways with every wash. Chloe's outfit today had a higher carbon footprint than a ribeye steak. Chloe does not know this either. 9:30am - Posted on Instagram about choosing compassion. The phone was manufactured in a Shenzhen factory using cobalt from the DRC, where mining operations have displaced local communities and killed an unknowable number of small mammals, reptiles, and insects. The algorithm served Chloe an ad for oat milk. Chloe liked it. 12:00pm - Lunch: tofu stir-fry. The soy was grown in Brazil. Brazil produces more soy than almost any country on earth. The primary reason is soybean oil: one of the most widely used industrial and culinary oils on the planet. The soymeal left over after oil extraction is fed to livestock as a byproduct. Chloe is aware of the livestock connection and finds it outrageous. She has not looked into why the soy was grown in the first place. The answer is the oil. The oil is in her salad dressing. 1:30pm - Drove to the garden centre. The car runs on petrol. Chloe has a Just Stop Oil sticker on the bumper. This is not being commented on further. 3:00pm - Bought a monstera. The monstera was grown in a Dutch greenhouse using natural gas heating. Chloe put it next to the pothos that is slowly poisoning the neighbourhood cats. 6:00pm - Dinner: pasta with cashew cream sauce. The cashews were processed in Vietnam, often by workers in conditions that would prompt significant commentary if they were in an abattoir. 8:00pm - Watched a documentary about factory farming. Wept. Posted about it. Caption: "We have to do better." Chloe is, by every measure she has chosen to measure by, doing brilliantly. By some of the others, the picture is more complicated. Chloe has not chosen to measure by those.

Revolvers are obsolete. 1911s are obsolete. 2011s are obsolete because 1911s are obsolete. Bolt action rifles are obsolete. High Power competition rules are obsolete, designed to cover up the weaknesses of the M1 Garand because boomers can't admit their favorite rifle is no longer competitive. Iron sights on rifles are obsolete. Iron sights on pistols will soon be obsolete. Any magazine that malfunctions when you rest the rifle on its baseplate is defective, throw it away. Any handguard that won't hold zero for mounted aiming devices is defective, throw it away. Most people have too much shit on their AR. The AK platform is no longer competitive with the modern AR. Wood doesn't belong on rifles any more. Pencil barrels are usually as good as carbon fiber, because most people really don't need sustained fire. Most exotic and less-popular chamberings don't give enough additional performance to justify themselves. 300 Blackout is a solution in search of a problem. Anything it can do, something else does better. There is no reason to buy a Glock for any purpose whatever, because there are clones better than the real thing. 5.7 is a great cartridge, but it will never make significant inroads into the concealed handgun market, because all of its advantages go away without an awkwardly long barrel. 40S&W only exists because the FBI are retards. Appendix carry isn't actually better, it just has different strengths and weaknesses.

@Devon_Eriksen_ @DocStrangelove2 Hard to argue with most of the list. My only disagreements are about bolt actions (which I think are still relevant for hunting) and Glock clones (I’m an OG guy). I do like wood stocks but it’s an emotional thing, so can’t argue with that.

@eviljinious1 @IanRunkle EXACTLY! HEMAist for 25+ years. Martial arts of any type are a perishable skill. You WILL get worse the longer you go without strenuous training. Even then, introduction to dagger night showed you that regardless of how good you are a knife armed assailant is going to wreck you.

So ridiculous. I’ve studied a wide variety of martial arts over the last 50 years and hold instructor ranks in 14. Martial arts, no matter what you learn, are front loaded on strength and how often you practice. If you aren’t practicing every week, you’re ngmi. Martial arts are horse shit unless you practice constantly. Pepper spray is marginal. Knives are great, guns better

So, the "experts" they went to are... People who teach Krav Maga. Did they not for a second think that there's a conflict there? They sell an alternative. But if you're sixty, or in a wheelchair, or whatever, pepper spray works. Krav Maga doesn't. share.google/pSGu8Akw0iRPQ6…

@OLDUKIEDUDE @Smileyyeg It doesn’t piss me off. What is has done is convinced me that Canada should just split along its cultural divides and each go their own way. I don’t really want anything to do with a group of people who instantly attack in that manner.

@OLDUKIEDUDE @Smileyyeg How’s that different from now? I’ve been called an inbred hick to my face while at a conference in BC. Ditchbillies is a term of affection? The RoC loves mocking us. A lot of people are tired of it.

From today's mini-rifle workshop at Nanaimo Fish & Game Club with Ted Beutler instructing. The drill here is acquiring multiple targets at 25 yards, on each side of the barrel, then mag change, then 3 targets again on each side of next barrel, then mag change, then 3 targets again on each side of last barrel. You see me have a jam ("stoppage") at one point. It's important to learn to clear those quickly and carry on. In competition, the timer doesn't stop running just because your gun jams.

@Evea_e @JohnBouras3230 @Smileyyeg As a Canadian I believe that joining a moribund Union ruled by fiat from Brussels by collectivists who observably loathe the people they represent is an idea just slightly more intelligent than dousing oneself in gasoline and then juggling lit road flares.

The Bank of Canada just admitted the economy is fucked and there's nothing they can do about it. They are forecasting further weakening, leading to job losses, while prices rise. But don't worry, MPs all get a pay raise on April 1st. Thank god we have an economic guru as PM!

@BALUCIAGA That’s entirely incorrect. Michelangelo was incredibly gifted, but also incredibly skilled because he was constantly working and producing pieces for sale or as commissions. He was 24 when he completed the Pieta now in St. Peter’s. It was his 12th or so major sculpture.

we don’t have a ‘michelangelo’ of this generation bc capitalism doesn’t let people disappear and lock themselves in a room for twenty years to create something beautiful. that level of greatness comes from isolation, time and obsession and none of that is being protected anymore.

@lanceromance66 @ThomasWatsonCD I judged you left leaning as your manner of argument is such. X doesn’t allow for long nuanced discussion. Memes are the political cartoons of today. As for your example, by age six the person has missed out on formative cultural immersion that is extremely difficult to make up.

@JasonDaub1 @ThomasWatsonCD Ahhhh, add a meme. Nice. I’m being serious, explain why a person born in Canada has a better, more valuable “lived experience” than someone who moved here at say, age 6, and has lived in Canada 40 years. Also explain why you suddenly brand me a “leftist”?

@cbfixesall @IanRunkle Except for everything delivered by rail. It also sucked. A lot. My grandparents settled the Peace Block after it was opened in 1916. I grew up with the last of the pioneer mindset. Pickled everything sucked in Mar-May. Don’t over romanticize it.

This is how Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and BC were built .. there were no fancy tractors or combines, it was ALL Hard work with horses and most of them made it. The farms were self contained meaning they grew and raised everything they needed to survive, meat, milk, chickens, pigs and grew wheat oats barley and huge gardens for food then canned everything they could for winter and they didn't have to put up with the BS there is today

@IanRunkle Here in the Peace Country good farm land is $500k per quarter. You’ll need 20 to really make it. Plus between 3-6 million in equipment & grain handling and everything else you need but don’t have a clue you need.
