My reaction: What about her distress - untreated pain? Dehydration? Medication review? Telling the family the diagnosis? Etc.

A pilot program at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne has embedded a geriatrician directly in ED — and in just one year, it has helped safely divert nearly 150 older patients from hospital admission, saving 900 acute bed days. 💡 The program was established by Dr David Kane, Clinical Director of Geriatric Medicine, who said the team has supported patients with heart and lung conditions, falls, fractures, and delirium to recover safely at home. 🏡 "People tend to recover more quickly in their own environment," he said — aligning closely with the ANZHFR’s focus on timely, person-centred care following hip fracture. The 4AT can be scored in patients who cannot speak or are too unwell to undergo cognitive testing. No patients are Unable To Assess (UTA) with the 4AT. This improves uptake and accuracy in diagnosis.

🤔 Delirium treatment is actually pretty complex.
When we say 'delirium treatment' what do we mean?
From finding & triggers, to maintaining physiological stability, to treating symptoms & reducing long-term complications, there is a lot to think about.
I've cared for people with delirium for many years now, & it takes me at least 20 mins to work through all the variables, make a plan, & communicate it.
