Thanks to today’s @PADemPolicy Hearing testifiers, Nurse Midwife Katrina Lipinsky and Dr. Sarah Horvath. Also thanks to @PPAdvocatesPA’s Signe Espinoza, who helped organize the hearing. This hearing focused on how we can increase access to abortion services in PA.

Katrina Lipinsky graduated with $350k in debt to be a midwife and recognizes that despite the debt load of a physician she will never command the salary of one. We need to make it more enticing to people to come and stay here which includes allowing them to practice fully.

@RepTarik asks the panel about their thoughts on full practice permission. Katrina Lipinsky points to the midwifery modernization act which has been a decade in the making and maintains a nurse practitioner license as well as a midwifery license both of which are tied to a Dr.

Katrina explains that while the care for abortion and miscarriage is exactly the same, she is banned from providing only one and none of the health systems in Reading provide abortion.
