Around my way we have a third thing called coagulation: Coagulation in Auckland’s water treatment, managed by Watercare, involves adding aluminum sulphate ("alum") to raw water to neutralize particle charges, causing suspended sediments to clump into heavier "flocs". So, of course, bottled water for me.

@sootytweet Thing is, she thinks she scored points, but voters will think it was a stupid question. And there's more of those voters than people like Tova think.

@DameKateePie @spidercatnz Imagine. At a butcher you walk in, go to the counter, the butcher hands you food. In a Supermarket, you wander around amongst all the other people, touching things, and eventually queue to pay for your shopping. Which, according to their rules, should have been safer?

Good on Chris Quin. Jacinda didn't even bother speaking with the CEO of Foodstuffs. She just locked us down, prevented butchers and greengrocers from opening, and it wasn't necessary. stuff.co.nz/nz-news/360960…

@aniobrien 'There is nothing to be scared of' is the sort of thing a man says to a child when he's offering sweeties to get her to sit in his car. Intelligent people know you don't get in the car.

This is misnomer. Or a strawman. Calling it “fear” is a deliberate misrepresentation. People aren’t afraid (from my perspective) they just want a fair system that ensures people making decisions can be held accountable by being voted out.

It’s probably become pretty clear that I haven’t been coping all that well lately with the level of abuse, nastiness, & outright lies I’m getting online, particularly on X. I’ve always enjoyed robust debate. I actually like disagreement. I like people who can challenge ideas, argue properly, & bring something intelligent to the table. But I’m not getting much of that anymore. I’m getting is people lying about me, attacking me personally, & lashing out instead of engaging with anything I actually say. I share ideas & political commentary. I criticise public figures & politicians. But I don’t go after random individuals. And despite what some seem to think, I’m not a politician. I’m a person who happens to have built a following over time. I’ve been dealing with this for more than a decade. You’d think by now it would all be water off a duck’s back. But I’m struggling. Maybe it’s hormones or where I’m at mentally or just the sheer volume & relentlessness of it all. Whatever it is, I’m not handling it well. I’ve found myself responding in kind. Snapping back. Telling people to go fuck themselves. And feeling vulnerable & looking around for others to defend me. I really don’t like that version of myself. I don’t want to be reactive, bitter, or constantly on edge. Or to be dragged into endless, pointless conflict. So something has to change. I’m not leaving X. I enjoy parts of this platform & I value being able to share my writing & ideas here. But from now on, I will be blocking people much more quickly. Before anyone jumps in with the usual “but free speech” stuff, people are free to say what they want. That doesn’t mean I’m obligated to read it, engage with it, or give it oxygen. You are not entitled to my attention. I’ll also be taking action where behaviour crosses into harassment or threats. And I just have to stop engaging with trolls. I will still screenshot some of the abuse and share it on my thread because I do think people should see how some individuals (men in particular, if we’re being honest) behave online. But I’m not going to waste energy fighting with them. I don’t want to spend my time arguing with people who aren’t interested in ideas, only in saying horrible things to me.right now, I’m just tired. If you want to engage in good faith…argue, disagree, challenge, I’m here for that. If you want to lie, abuse, or act like a coward behind a screen, leave me alone.

End Daylight Savings The best government possible is the government that does the least possible and is as consistent as possible. Daylight savings should end. Pick one time zone and stick with it. Preferably standard time. Twice a year the government interferes with sleep, routines, business, and family life for no good reason. It disrupts circadian rhythm. It worsens sleep. It creates unnecessary health costs. It throws children’s schedules out. It makes international business more annoying than it needs to be. A rational government does not keep moving the clock and forcing millions of people to adjust. Set the time once. Leave it alone.

@LuvAgent99 @SandeChin @FullTwatforward I had a bit of a look, and it seems to be from the person who did the study. But that's possibly true still. She'd know where Aotearoa is, but might struggle with NZ. 😇

@SandeChin @FullTwatforward Good catch! That might have come from the study author copying something from Northern Hemisphere housing issues, thinking it translates directly.

I used to know a public health nurse whose job it was to go around houses where sick children were, often with these diseases. They were referred by the schools usually. She said often times the houses were filthy - multiple children to a bed and sheets never washed. Proper housing had been provided, but additional families would move in and cause overcrowding. Shocking stories of lack of even basic care and cleanliness. Not the state's fault and not colonialism- it's a culture of lack of care and a failure to follow even basic standards of hygiene.

Chris Bishop loses his roles as campaign chair and leader of the house in Luxon's reshuffle. He led a coup attempt last year, and according to Barry Soper, there was another one a couple of days ago. Punishment for Bishop from Luxon? Yes. let's put him over here as Attorney General and keep him busy with that and his other portfolios. Losing Leader of the House and campaign chair strips away high-visibility influence in both Parliament and party strategy. Luxon clearly sees him as a threat, and wants to muzzle him as much as possible. #nzpol
