But here is what I want: I want an individualized risk-benefit assessment from a medical professional for my particular child. “Here’s how many infants were in the ER with x disease in nyc last year. Here’s the number of bad reactions to this shot, representing x%. Here is my recommendation.” A conversation between two caring and intelligent adults, one with expertise in medicine and one with the ultimate power to decide. That’s how this conversation about risk between a parent and doctor should go. If you think this is inherently unreasonable, you’re going to get unreasonability right back. Your credibility is shot to hell. You’re at square one.
