most people don't realize *Paris was modeled after DC.* not the other way around. -1791: L'Enfant finishes his plan for DC -1853: Haussmann begins his first boulevard, la Rue de Rivoli America was first to many things, & we never give ourselves the credit

@AlexanderPayton Addiction is an imperfect word here, but if someone desires fervently to stop consuming pornography and is unable to do so, how better can that situation be described?

This is just humiliating and weird but it’s worth pointing out for the record that “porn addiction” is not really a thing. Reported symptoms of addiction are only weakly related to the amount of consumption. Instead, what is actually much clearer from studies that have been done is that conservative religiosity and moral disapproval are strongly associated with perceived addiction, even after accounting for use. This means someone who believes porn is wrong may be more likely to report symptoms of “addiction” if they watch porn once a month (or in this case, twenty years ago) than someone with different moral views who consumes it more frequently. This is not how cigarettes or alcohol work. This is a totally different thing. It’s just a man who has been made to feel deeply insecure about his private sexual thoughts and behaviors, which is likely not that much different than any other man, to the point of performing this groveling spectacle in front of an audience who takes him at his word and assumes he’s some depraved animal.

U.S. Rep. Mike Kennedy said he's a “recovering addict to pornography” during a Utah College Republicans event hosted by YouTuber Nick Shirley on Friday. sltrib.com/news/politics/…

How much immigration is Brandon Gill required to support for you to not label him self-hating on account of his wife’s ethnic background? One million immigrants a year? 20 million? What’s the number? Is he required to support allowing any Indian who so desires to move to America? Your argument is totally unserious.

Hungary under Viktor Orbán has become a potent and living symbol of the existential threats that the EU's establishment fears it faces. My dispatch from Budapest on the eve of the country's momentous April 12 election. @NRO nationalreview.com/news/will-hung…

'Republicans' like @RepMariaSalazar and @RepMikeLawler are once again trying to drum up support for their so-called "Dignity Act"—which, among other provisions, would give legal status to millions of illegal migrants and dramatically increase legal immigration levels through the raising of per-country visa caps and the loosening of rules on green-card eligibility. They're now claiming that the bill does not constitute amnesty. In light of that spurious claim, this @NRO editorial from last year is worth returning to. "Supporters of the Dignity Act claim that the bill does not offer amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants. By that they mean it does not offer full citizenship. But the bill does offer a form of legal resident status to millions of illegal immigrants. This is the core of 'amnesty': a promise that the normal consequence of an infraction (in the context of illegal immigration, that’s deportation) will be stopped, and the object of the infraction (the ability to live and work in the U.S.) gained." nationalreview.com/2025/07/a-path…

@jackbutler4815 Ms. Morrissey's accent seems to have developed a bit. The way in which she pronounces words like "about" and "honorable" sounds almost Canadian, and unlike many American accents she has dropped the flapping 't.' The new Transatlantic accent?

People fail to grasp how powerful and great this machine of America is. It's like they think it is some tiny country in Eastern Europe with a population of 2 million and a GDP less than that of Dallas. People don't understand what it is that they are even living in. They don't know how powerful these gears are, how long the game is, how big the purpose is, how great the ship is.

Gavin Newsom doubled Medicaid spending, from $94 billion to $197B per year, while his state's population declined by 0.2 percent. It's not "services expanding" and "new programs being launched." It's just billions in fraud—and massive handouts to his union paymasters.
Governor Newsom Press Office@GovPressOffice

Right-wing stooge posing as a “reporter” has never heard of services expanding, new programs being launched, or costs going up due to inflation. Suggest he subscribe to our press release list to learn more about how the Governor is delivering for Californians.

California spends $30 billion a year to pay for more than 500,000 people to stay home with family members and cook, clean, do laundry, and watch television. The program mostly operates on the honor system—and loses $6 to $12 billion to fraud each year.
