@allterquestion @JadeAtrophis Fair, but I don't think our views contradict. Obviously there's heavy inspiration and reference to Shintoism and Buddhism. Many of the monsters in Zelda are direct references to these or even miscellaneous Japanese folklore.

@MaxedLuck @JadeAtrophis Actually, Hyrule is a religious alamgam between Christianity, Buddhism and Shintoism. In the original versions of the games (Japanese language) the characters speak and make references to Buddhism such as mentioning the Oni and the oniroko game.

The Gerudo in Ocarina of Time It's irrefutable that the Gerudo have come a long way since their debut in 1998, but the Gerudo in Ocarina of Time contribute to ideologies of colonialism through its settings and characters. The Hylians (European-inspired) are portrayed as the good people, while the Gerudo (Arabic/Islamic appropriated) are portrayed as the bad people, as thieves and pirates. The Gerudo originally used Islamic/Arabic iconography: its symbol was the traditional Islamic crescent moon and star, and the fire temple's soundtrack was of Arabic chanting. Sure, you might argue that "the Gerudo are a fictional race", but you cannot refute that they were heavily influenced by harmful stereotypes of Arabic culture. There is an actual character that flies over the desert on a magic carpet, come on.

I didn't have a PlayStation as a kid, so I didn't play FF7 until well into adulthood. I have no nostalgia for it and no clouded childhood memories of it, and I still think it's one of the most beautiful RPGs ever made. Square-Enix showed massive conceit by remaking it.

The new powers are now heavily integrated into the open-world. Make a vehicle from logs, fuse a monster part onto a stick, ect
