@faithandheresy @bestofStarTrek It’s my favourite of the TNG movies. I saw it in the theater blind because they were showing the Phantom Menace teaser with it. So I had no real expectations for it, good or bad. I ended up enjoying it more than any Trek film since Undiscovered Country.

@DungeonNoir An open world game set in Britannia would be awesome. It would have to have the music from Ultima IV in it though.

@LittlePineCO @AP Cars kill far more birds than wind turbines do and ships kill far more whales. Trump only hates wind farms because of his Scottish golf club.

@YoDanno @Mythica_X Specifically, it’s Michael Moschen. Because of the positioning required to shoot their scenes Bowie stuffed a big bag of potpourri down his pants so that everything would smell nice and fresh for Moschen during filming.

@Mythica_X Did you know these are NOT David Bowie’s hands here? True story, it’s a stunt actor laying on his back. Bowie couldn’t do it, so they got a stand in.

Interesting perspective my friend, I respect your stance. I think you’re treating “levels” as purely meta when D&D has never been that clean about the line. Level drain works precisely because it does have an in world implication, something is stealing your life force, your essence, your hard earned power. The rules express that as lost levels because that’s the system’s best shorthand for “you are fundamentally diminished.” It’s no less abstract than hit points representing both physical injury and luck, or saving throws representing willpower and fate. If anything, level drain is one of the strongest mechanics. Undead like wraiths and vampires aren’t just clawing at your body, they’re eroding who you are. That’s very easy to understand from a character perspective..you feel weaker, slower, less capable, like something vital has been hollowed out of you. The discomfort players feel is because it’s high stakes and hard to ignore. It bypasses the usual buffer of hit points and forces you to confront a lasting consequence. That’s not a flaw in immersion, that’s the mechanic doing its job. And honestly, replacing it with “just more damage” or another condition flattens undead into generic threats. Level drain makes them existentially dangerous in a way that fits the fiction. These are creatures that don’t just kill you, they unmake you. If anything, the real issue isn’t immersion, it’s whether a table wants that level of punishment. But that’s a tone and preference question, not a narrative failure.

Level drain abilities undermine immersion because they collapse the boundary between player-facing mechanics and in-world fiction. Levels are meant to be an abstract representation of growth, experience, and capability, not a literal substance that can be siphoned away by an enemy. By contrast, most other mechanics;damage, conditions, fatigue, and fear, are diegetic: they exist naturally within the world and can be understood from the character’s perspective. Level drain is non-diegetic intrusion, forcing players to think in purely mechanical terms rather than narrative ones. This creates ludonarrative dissonance, where the story says one thing (a terrifying undead creature attacks you), but the mechanics say another (you lose two levels, which has no clear in-world explanation). There are other ways to make your undead terrifying that don't break the design philosophies the rest of the game was built on.

@rummingpro101 @atrupar Ha ha, that’s quite an interesting reply, but Trump’s logic was actually pretty ruthless when he fired back at the reporter with ‘how many years has Vietnam been around?’ Numerical questions certainly don’t faze him; he just has a very direct style.😂

UNESCO World Book and Copyright Day is a global celebration of reading and publishing held annually on 23 April. Established in 1995, its mission is to promote literacy, encourage a love for books, and highlight the importance of protecting intellectual property through copyright. The date was chosen for its symbolic significance in world literature. The 23rd of April marks the anniversary of the deaths of legendary authors William Shakespeare, Miguel de Cervantes, and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega in 1616. While it is a famous historical coincidence that all three literary giants died in 1616, they did not actually pass away on the same day due to the use of different calendars at the time.  ~Don Quixote - Edward John Gregory (Cervantes) ~Hamlet’s Vision - Pedro Américo (Shakespeare) ~Garcilaso de la Vega statue in Toledo by Julio Martín de Vidales

In May 1940, as Britain faced the imminent threat of German invasion, the government interned nearly 30,000 German and Austrian refugees on the Isle of Man, placing them behind barbed wire in a network of camps. Many were released that autumn and went on to enlist in the British Army, going from internees to soldiers in the fight against Nazi Germany.

In September 1944, German generals held captive in Britain were secretly overheard discussing a devastating new weapon: the V-2 rocket. This 13-ton monster carried a one-ton warhead and could strike without warning. Thanks to hidden microphones and the “secret listeners,” the Allies quickly learned of its existence and launched an urgent hunt for the rocket’s hidden manufacturing sites.
