Walked past a girl crying on the phone in Union Square. She got into Juilliard. Everyone around her - total strangers - started clapping. Nobody knew her, but we all meant it. 🥹😭

@Megankstack Photographed with Gerry Attended at least one Noraid fundraiser in Dolans,a famous Irish bar in Yonkers And he mixed in business circles all his adult life with Irish Americans so conversations about Reunification is something that he heard often I'm sure

The average American -- even many Irish-Americans my age or younger -- probably doesn't know that partition still exists or what that entails, but would have a hazy sense that yes Ireland should be united. Trump's vague comments seem representative if comically uninformed.
Colum Eastwood@columeastwood

Joking aside - it is interesting that even President Trump, possibly the least likely of any modern president, seems to have a natural predisposition toward Irish unity.

@Tyler_A_Harper Yes, she seems nice. And I found the story painful. Learning about the gf bc someone saw them kissing at a bar. When the host asked if she was into women and the answer was basically, no, but I’m sleeping with this one (bc my husband told me to?). It seemed to just get sadder.

@Megankstack I generally find people with West’s politics extremely grating but the thing is she’s really quite likeable and it’s very sad to watch a person with a lot going for them be conned by some snake oil salesman who absolutely doesn’t have a lot of evident positive traits.

I wrote about Lindy West. Her memoir, in which she is guilt-tripped into polyamory by a husband who vaguely implies that monogamy is racist, is a cautionary tale about turning marriage into a political project. Her polyamory is just the coastal lib version of being a tradwife. 🧵
The Atlantic@TheAtlantic

In her memoir, Lindy West describes how she went from resisting polyamory to embracing it—but her version of it is strangely politicized, @Tyler_A_Harper argues: “She doesn’t seem enlightened. She seems to have been wheedled into buying a fantasy.” theatlantic.com/family/2026/03…

Who would've thought Iran would retaliate against US military assets within their firing range? Who would've thought Iran would be able to control the Strait of Hormuz which literally traces the Iranian border? All of this is a huge surprise?

Every day I look at what Iran is saying & doing, and look at what the US is saying & doing. And it's clear that Iran has gamed this out for years, which makes sense, bc it's not like this war hasn't been threatened for years. And then there's the Trump administration, flailing.

Seems the US went into this blind, with no realistic, strategic thinking on Iran's position and tolerance, likely reactions, even military strength. No planning for the US's regional vulnerabilities. And a severe underestimation of Hezbollah's remaining strength.

@irishagreement True. But, also, does it really matter what the US thinks now? To some extent, sure, but not like the peace talk days.

@Megankstack Unionism’s only chance of building up political support in the US would be with Evangelicals like Ian Paisley did with Pastor Bob Jones who gave him his doctorate and following Israel’s example with Evangelical politicians like Mike Huckabee who Trump made US ambassador to Israel
