@ohabryka @benlandautaylor Yes, that is absolutely what should happen, and attempted murder should be included as well. Anyone who has proven their willing to kill is too dangerous to live among other people.

Is your position here that all forms of manslaughter or murder should carry life sentences or death sentences? It's not crazy IMO, I haven't thought that hard about it, but my guess is that for many things in this reference class ~10 years seems reasonable to me. > A long trial is a different thing from a long sentence. I think jail-time during trials should straightforwardly count towards your final prison sentence. Do you not think it should? So they seem largely equivalent to me.

@MelvinOSquire @tyler_aud @ratanapakdee She's not inviting him over to dinner lol. She's playing her part in assuring the judge she made the right call Imagine if your lawyer was too scared to go near you. Would be a bad look for "He isn't a threat! She's doing her job. The judge is the issue.

@MelvinOSquire @ratanapakdee Stupid comment. Blame the Judge or the people setting judicial guidelines. Everyone is entitled to have someone that will argue to the best of their ability on your behalf, someone who is always on your side no matter what. That's their job and it's important.

@tyler_aud @ratanapakdee If I were a defense attorney, I would recognize that while defending people accused of crimes is necessary, joyfully hugging a convicted and self-admitted killer when they receive a light sentence is not necessary.

this is one of the most despicable NIMBY crusades I have ever seen: Millionaire homeowners in Chelsea (and, for some reason, Jack Schlossberg) are sponsoring lawsuits against rebuilding an 80 year old NYCHA campus, forcing tenants to live in dilapidated housing indefinitely

One of the many reasons we have a housing crisis: NIMBYs work hard to slow + block dev every step of the way. Thousands of NYers are suffering because of a dedicated group of privileged NIMBYs have worked to misinform a group of public housing tenants. crainsnewyork.com/real-estate/co…

@JulieChangRE But what if there hadn’t been a lot? People should be allowed to keep their family homes and pass them down to their kids.

@ratanapakdee Remember this photo the next time you hear a defense attorney talking about how “they’re just doing their job,” and “everyone’s entitled to a defense.” Attorneys enjoy getting these violent fucking freaks off the hook so they can continue to prey on the rest of us.

@glowehwurm @UrbanCourtyard The debate here is about neo-traditional facades, making fake historical cities, that feels like a theme park or a movie set, which undermines other architecture functions.

@owengreeley @devahaz My heuristic is simple - if you take a life, or try to take a life, then you’re too dangerous to live. This guy clearly qualifies.

@MelvinOSquire @devahaz murder and manslaughter are different crimes for a reason. if you think they should be punished the same way so be it, but that has to be applied universally, not based on your gut feelings about how dangerous a person is

I believe this guy should have been found guilty of murder. The jury disagreed. His defense was he was having a bad day and got angry because he thought this guy was looking at him. If you believe his own words to be true, how can that person be allowed unsupervised in society?

@owengreeley @devahaz Yes? He was probably a lower recidivism risk than your average killer, but either way he should go too. What’s your point?

Sure, and that would mean the value of apartment building values increase in nominal terms but decline in real terms.

@MikeFellman Rents can decline in real terms even as they increase in nominal terms, though.

I was just in China. Proof Pic attached. I saw a Chinese citizen get into a verbal altercation with a member of the government about a traffic light and they were cussing the whole government out in front of an official building. They definitely have free speech.

@JeanGreige It's embarassing how susceptible you are to really mediocre propaganda. You know people in china can't speak freely and the government lies constantly. Yet you choose to believe the best version of China promoted via propaganda. So Stupid.

@IsaiahLCarter The city has spent the last 100+ years building and widening roads, often narrowing sidewalks or outright demolishing buildings to do so. and you dipshits are still whining about not having enough lanes. When does it end?

No one asked for this. NOBODY asked for EVERY avenue in Manhattan to be turned into shitty replicas of the ONLY bike lane in the city that actually makes sense, and is REMOVED FROM THE MAIN ROADS OF THE CITY. NO ONE ASKED FOR THIS. And CERTAINLY not working- or even middle-class New Yorkers, for that matter. This Communist nonprofit and their symbiotic relationship to NYC's Department of Transportation was foisted upon the city by affluent, white leftist Midwestern transplants. Who funds TransAlt?
Transportation Alternatives@TransAlt

Imagine a city where it’s as safe to bike on every street as it is on the Hudson River Greenway. That’s the city we’re fighting for.
