Time to start talking about my game! Fight off an alien invasion, turn based strategy, rogue-lite. Similar to XCOM and Into The Breach. Follow or ask for more details. Haven’t picked a name yet 👽🛸 #PitchYaGame

@innesmck @philippawarr I did this in a hello kitty theme park once, they looked sad that we couldn’t figure it out, and printed us a “you’re locked in here forever” consolation prize photo instead of the normal one

@ScruffySfm So we had to re-write most of the gameplay code and in particular all of the mission and AI logic was done in C/C++ by the code team instead of Lua by technical designers

@ScruffySfm No Lua in CD2, we ditched it quite early on, no way it was going to work with the peer-to-peer networking model that we switched to. CD1 just passed controller inputs but you can’t do that with more than 2 players really

@MikeEnoch Hey there! Me and a team of friends are trying to figure out what debug stuff was left in the first and second Crackdown on Discord. Since you're the lead code, I was wondering if you'd be interested in helping us out. We've found some old builds of CD1.

@GreyAlien Would make it kind of tactile and alive, keep the accuracy and visual features of the other two - but also harder to use for a more casual audience that just wants to tap or click (which is why B is probably better)

@GreyAlien I think B is probably best - but a possible option C would be to enlarge the fan and have the card you are going to select pop out (or space the cards next to it) when you press down, and only select on release so you can slide onto another card if it’s not what you want

I'm enhancing Regency Solitaire II for Steam Deck so that it's easier to select (tap) individual wildcards from the fan (bottom right). I can either: A) enlarge the fan when tapped, and players pick one. B) put a panel across the bottom with the wildcards spread out. Thoughts?

I'm broke. I owe the tax service 30k more than I have, and still have no income. I am desperate and need work. Illustration, realistic or stylized, 2D animation and an expert pixel artist tok. I've been a game artist for 15 years. Help? This is undignified

@feralbob Yeah VR works pretty well for these things but it’s outside my scope right now! Give Demeo a try if you haven’t already, it’s basically VR Heroquest, the interface works really well

@MikeEnoch Nice one Mike. I always wanted to make an Xcom alike but in VR. I think it could work well.

No public demo at the moment, but I'm working on it. Just starting to talk about the game openly. More to follow as and when! Will be looking for publishing or funding opportunities.

@TylerGlaiel Often I’ll think your green/orange/yellow glow is the same thing - but there you go, colour blind I guess 🤷‍♂️

@TylerGlaiel I might not be able to tell you exactly what colour it is but often if reds are darker and greens are lighter I can at least tell you are trying to say something and figure it out

color is so useful to subtly distinguish things / present information without adding extra noise to the scene, then colorblind people gotta make this difficult lol

@FreyaHolmer It feels to me like having the dot, then a&b, then t might work - the middle controls are less accessible when sandwiched so you might naturally go for the bottom t control first, especially since you have the note at the top suggesting t first

I have a UX puzzle I want users to interact with the green t slider, but I can't put it above the b/a knobs, because on mobile your thumb would be in the way of the middle dot I also want users to be able to change b and a, but I want to discourage them from doing so first

@shrydar @chrislpenner You really couldn’t be too cautious, it cost serious money and time to do another cert test pass

@shrydar @chrislpenner I can’t remember if it was because of PS or Xbox or both but we had double buffered saves back in the 2000s to deal with cert requirements (implemented on all platforms of course), and we had a lot of UI warnings etc on top of that

Games that say “Don’t turn off the game while you see the auto save icon”; Why? Are triple-A games not using proper transactions or journaling when saving your game 🤔 Are they being overly cautious? A hold-over from the old days? Do they just not want you to lose your progress?
