She thought she had finally met the one—right after a tough divorce, everything about him felt too perfect to question. He showed up consistently, treated her like a priority, connected with her kids… even her family approved. Then came the details that sounded straight out of a movie: a “trust fund,” wealthy parents, big career moves, and talk of building a house near her after just four months. It felt fast—but also… convincing. But something didn’t sit right. The stories. The speed. The way he kept mentioning money no one had even asked about. So she did something most people are too afraid to do—she reached out to his ex. And that’s when everything collapsed. The reply came back sharp, almost sarcastic: “But did you get the Porsche?” That one line told her everything. The lifestyle? The wealth? The image he built? It wasn’t what it seemed. Now she’s left replaying every moment, realizing the version of him she believed in never really existed. Sometimes the biggest red flag isn’t what someone hides, it’s what they go out of their way to show off. If someone came into your life moving this fast and talking big about money… would you believe it, or start digging before it’s too late?

@HereC57131 @PostDisclosure Exactly. Self-employed people CAN feel a sense of purpose, but even the most dedicated of them made the choice to do it in the first place because a human's gotta eat

@PostDisclosure "With UBI, no one will have a purpose." How many people love their jobs??? No one. How many people feel "purpose" in their jobs??? No one. How many people are happy with work stress??? No one. How many people get a career for a "purpose"?? No one.

Being against UBI is totally fine. But so many of the arguments people make against it insult my intelligence. For example, the idea that if people aren't forced to work, they will lose all meaning. Many people dislike their jobs so much that they would trade working just to survive for the possibilities downtime opens up. Since when do we find meaning in doing something we despise? Has work for survival become our new idol? What about spiritual work, reading and studying, teaching, family time, growing food, working out, enjoying hobbies, and so forth? I'd flip this whole conversation—the fact that so many people think work is the primary source of meaning is a bigger problem than people having the option not to work. And UBI wouldn’t make working impossible; it just means people could be much more selective about what kind of work they do. That’s freedom and agency at its best.

100% agreed. I think it's boomers. A lot of them have jobs where they are dead weight and just enjoying forcing people to interact with them, because they can't stand being alone with their thoughts for five minutes. I'm sure I'd like my job too if I didn't have to do much (or any) real work and I got obsequious attention every day and I was dim-headed enough to enjoy such a situation. I am Gen X, and retirement is still a few years ahead for me but once I do it, I will not be bored for an instant. There are SO MANY things I want to do with my life, time, family, kids, etc. I won't come close to making a dent in the list before I shuffle off this mortal coil.

@elonmusk Ideally, the AI robots will get so good at doing the labor of daily life that people can just buy the robots they need, put them to work, and... not have to have the government paying for any of it. I don't think we're all that close to this, but I won't mind being proven wrong

Universal HIGH INCOME via checks issued by the Federal government is the best way to deal with unemployment caused by AI. AI/robotics will produce goods & services far in excess of the increase in the money supply, so there will not be inflation.

@MikeValmike @N7Verner Disagree, Mando slaps as it’s a spaghetti western, Ahsoka was a great, Kenobi took me back to the 80s, Andor was excellent, I started watching the cartoons a few years ago, and they’re great, minus that kid on Bad Batch, it’s good shit

I can't even begin to express to you how big of a Star Wars fan I was. I was born in '74. SW meant so much to me. They killed it. I'm now simply indifferent. I no longer care what happens in A Galaxy Far, Far away. Unimiginable to me, but it's true. Disney killed it for me
Varad Mehta@varadmehta

It's only my impression and it's purely anecdata, but Disney has to be disappointed with ticket sales so far for The Mandalorian and Grogu. Was looking at Fandango just now and tons of seats are available in all formats. For example, here's IMAX, IMAX 3D, and Dolby opening day.

@N7Verner Oh for fucks sake, I was born in 76 and have been a fanatic since. You should know better at your age, you were there for the Special Edition controversies, and the Prequels and yet here you are. Kenobi took me back to the 80s and if you don’t like Mando then you’re lost

@RSRDGaming @excel_ranger From what I'm seeing, you're certainly right about that. It's a rough position and one that's not trivial to rise out of. I would prioritize that if I were down to the cloth. You never want to have to keep eating sh*t at work just to make it to your next meal/bill/etc

The most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen was born on Monday, April 13th, 2026. She spent an hour and 8 minutes feeling nothing but the love of her mom and dad, and meeting her brothers and sisters; the answer to our biggest prayer. She’s entrusted to the Lord’s keeping until the day He has promised to return and wipe every tear from our eyes, and death shall be no more. We treasure every moment we had with her until that day comes. Thank you can’t adequately express our gratitude for the many friends here who have prayed for us- many names and faces I will never know, but brothers and sisters in Christ who have lifted us up before the Lord, our only Sustainer. God is good.

@MikeValmike @BasedTorba @elonmusk But not having a lot of free time is a good thing! You're engaged, you have purpose. I retired and got so bored I started a small business just so I'd have something productive to do every day. A reason to get up every day.

Handing people a check isn't going to solve the crisis of meaning and the spiritual void in people's lives. What will people *do* all day? Shop? Scroll another feed? From where and what will they derive meaning? They aren't starting families. Most of them reject God. There is no point in going to school beyond the level of basic reading writing and math if jobs are nuked. Not to mention the fact that we now have access to intelligence on demand in our hands. Remove the job that gives someone a some small sense of purpose (and for many the only sense of belonging and community they have) and it's a recipe for disaster that no amount of money will solve. How do you determine how much everyone gets? Does the crack addict get the same check as the 140 IQ young guy with endless potential? On what basis can some afford a yacht and others never reach that level? No one has seriously given any meaningful thought into what this actually looks like in the real world with real people and how it will impact their lives spiritually, mentally, and physically, not just financially.
