My 20-year-old daughter, Katie, was killed by someone unlawfully in our nation and state. No background checks. No health screenings. No job training. No assimilation support. No real safeguards for citizens.
In Illinois, and especially under J.B. Pritzker, leaders do not stand on moral high ground. They knew these policies would create victims. They accepted that cost. They were willing to sacrifice innocent lives for ideology and political power.
That is not compassion. That is negligence. And it is evil, evil toward citizens placed in harm’s way, and evil toward immigrants used as political props and then abandoned when their suffering becomes inconvenient.
While they erase the Katies of the world, they also discard immigrants whose pain does not serve the narrative. These are rulers who love humanity in the abstract, but ignore humanity in the real lives destroyed by their decisions.
Sad.

The @GOP had a once-in-a-generation opportunity to make meaningful change in the country. Short of an 11th hour miracle, they’ve pissed it away because they worry too much about upsetting the other side. The proposal was larded with elements that Dems knew Republicans would never accept. It was just an exercise to give people like Yglesias a fake cudgel. Yglesias knows this but does not care.
