W quote Here I cannot but observe the amazing ignorance and stupidity of some persons, who take it into their heads to decry learning and learned men. John Gill BoDD pg. 33

Civic righteousness isn't the biblical counselor's ultimate goal; God's glory is (WSC Q1). If the best you can do in a moment is to convince the alcoholic to stop drinking momentarily, start there (humble beginnings). Serve the counselee you have, not the one you wish you had.

Overheard: Biblical counseling's *ultimate goal* is sanctification. I demur. BC's ultimate goal is *to glorify God and enjoy him forever* (WSC Q1). A given case may never see the former, but it can always pursue the latter. Sanctification is God's work, not mine (WLC Q75).

Hebrews 5:8-10 ESV [8] Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered. [9] And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him, [10] being designated by God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek.

I am going to let the big DBTS BC debate decide for itself in 2026. I don't need people to tell me what to believe 🦋😇🫠.

Hebrews 3:3 ESV [3] For Jesus has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses—as much more glory as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself.

Conferences on the sufficiency of Scripture are ironic IMO. Depends on how it's done.

When Did Biblical Counseling Begin? rpmministries.org/2022/09/when-b… “History and tradition are democracy extended through time.” History gives “votes to the most obscure of all classes, our ancestors. It is the democracy of the dead.” It refuses to submit to the small and arrogant elite “who merely happen to be walking around” (Chesterton, Orthodoxy, p. 3).

@jasonkovacs Counselors are lower case "a" ambassadors who point to the true and great ambassador, Christ and to his ordained means of growth, love, security, grace, forgiveness, and strength. Thanks Jason!! :)

In Biblical Counseling, our primary goal is not that people will gain more biblical knowledge or insight, learn Biblical principles, or even grow in obedience. It is that they would see, encounter, and worship the Person of Jesus as the way, the truth, and the life.

Biblical Counselors: If you take upon yourself the responsibility of your client’s sanctification, which belongs to God alone, you will eventually adopt a legalistic ethos in an attempt to maintain control. This will end in anxiety and despair for both you and your client.

Reformed brethren can hold the following without contradicting reason, the Scriptures, or confessional standards: God loves the world. He desires each human to be saved, antecedently. Jesus died for all in such a way that if any person were to believe, they could be saved. 1/2

John Gill's comments on Heb. 2:9. He is a pretty cool dude (same church as Benjamin Keach). He is an antinomian theobro theonomist, so take his words with a grain of salt. biblestudytools.com/commentaries/g…

@amillaaaa @WoodsReflection @MarkMacdonald75 What sense of salvation was Paul talking about in Acts 27:31? "Paul said to the centurion and the soldiers, “Unless these men stay in the ship, you cannot be saved.”
