I looked at Economist Intel Unit's Democracy rankings (only the top "full democracy" countries) and added Freedom House's ratings. Then looked up who requires Voter ID. (FYI US at #25 on EIU rank and scores 83 from Freedom House.) Corrections welcome, but provide source please.

WRONG.. and it’s ironic because this completely ignores what the bill actually does. It does NOT block deportations. Recent arrivals (who came under Biden) are deportable. Criminals are deportable. No exceptions so ICE can focus on their important mission. This section ensures people eligible for the Dignity Program (must have evidence of being here BEFORE 2021) are not deported while they are applying for Dignity Program. If they fail to meet processing requirements, they will be deported. However, the 24 month timeline is likely too long. It can be shortened significantly to sync up with the time needed to stand up the Dignity program. That’s how legislating works… it gets refined. And yes, I welcome the feedback. As my #1 fan @basedMikeLee can tell you, we are on the 3rd(?) version of the SAVE America Act because small changes to text actually have big implications. Most bills are amended along the way.

@RepMariaSalazar This is not what amnesty means. What you describe is just lawlessness or nonenforcement. What you are proposing is amnesty. If you want to debate it on its merits, fine. However please don't insult people's intelligence by abusing the English language.

There’s a fundamental misconception about what “amnesty” really means. Amnesty is looking the other way: no consequences, no accountability, just more chaos. That’s the system we’ve had for decades. The Dignity Act ends it with enforcement, accountability, real penalties, and ZERO tolerance for criminals. That’s not amnesty. That’s law and order!

How to Mislead with Statistics Bottom line it seems to be high fives all around for almost getting to only 1 in 5 AI responses being confidently incorrect. This might be great in a lab, but think about that ratio if you might be relying on AI for an important decision.

I expect the ceasefire to not hold long. Really can't see our stated aims being achieved without a more prolonged campaign if extreme escalation is off the table. Any current "gain" from action so far will be transitory, and anyone who doesn't think nuclear breakout will be IRI's #1 priority is kidding themselves.

@MaxAbrahms A rare disagreement with your assessment. Unfortunately, as of now, this hasn't prevented anything. It has very possibly deferred things. Best outcome now is the ceasefire does not hold, unless one is unrealistically (IMHO) optimistic about the negotiations, such as they may be.

The Iran Lobby is portraying Iran as a huge victor in the war despite its military getting crushed. It’s just one IRGC talking point after another. But as I’ve said: The markets will quickly return but Iran’s military power will not. This is the point of preventative wars.

Curious to see how things play out with purported negotiations. Seems unlikely stated aims will be achieved without further military action. On current news, ultimatum achieved nothing other than limiting our own freedom of maneuver (binary of extreme escalation or ceasefire).

San Francisco is now a model for how to fight crime. A few years ago it averaged 86 car break-ins per day. Today: 15. SF did two things: 1. Got a DA that prosecutes criminals: Following the successful recall of Chesa Boudin, DA Brooke Jenkins started prosecuting prolific offenders and said so loudly. Crime dropped every year since she took office. 2. Put tech to use: In 2024, SF activated 400 license plate readers and deployed 80 drones citywide. This tech feeds officers live intelligence on suspects in motion. Drones alone have assisted in 1,000+ arrests since then. The technology lets authorities solve crimes as they happen rather than depend on much more intensive, legally perilous post hoc investigations (which ironically are often more intrusive than using tech). The results: - Car break-ins down 85% - Robbery down 30% - Burglary down 33%. - Homicides hit their lowest level since 1954. Plate readers, drones, a prosecutor who prosecutes. That's the whole formula! Austin has the opposite approach. License plate cameras are effectively banned. Jail bookings are down despite repeat offenders victimizing innocent people regularly. Bond violations went from 37 in 2020 to 250 last year. SF proved crime is a choice. Austin, so far, keeps making a different one.
