If you define Aztec as Mexica, yeah, you're correct. If you define it as Nahua, then I suspect you're probably wrong. I've never really looked into how much ancestry people in Mexico today have from different Prehispanic groups, my interest is in Prehispanic archeology/history, not genetics

European-born Spaniards often intermarried with Criolla daughters, which helped them secure the inheritances that should have gone to Criollo sons. This increased the rivalry between Criollos and European Spaniards.

Mexican Criollos couldn't maintain the discipline of their Spanish fathers and grandfathers, which is why they resented the newly arrived (& often more industrious) Spaniards in Mexico.

In 1849, Mexican historian Lucas Alaman wrote that there were over one million Criollo Spaniards in Mexico, which was one fifth of New Spain"s population of 6 million. This population was born in Mexico and stayed after independence. They were our Criollo forefathers.
