Those £s came from prior govt spending.
There is no other source.
Therefore: bonds are not "lending" the govt its own currency. They are a savings scheme for people with excess income.
The govt's ability to spend does not depend on bonds.
It never did.

Free-market apologists always use percentages rather than actual figures. In 2022 BP made a record $28 billion. Profits are $3.2 billion in the first quarter of 2026, capitalizing on shortages and on course for doubling last year's figure. Is this small change or something?
