It is with a heavy heart that we relay the news of the passing of legendary Pirates and National Baseball Hall of Famer, Bill Mazeroski. Maz was a 7-time All-Star who hit the greatest home run in baseball history. He was a beloved member of the Pirates family and he will be deeply missed.

RIP Bill Mazeroski. Easy to think of HR he hit in ‘60 or how great he was with glove. My memory? 2011 Spring Training, Maz was up at dawn each day helping Neil Walker transition to playing 2B - out on the field, showing footwork. The two formed an incredible, genuine bond. RIP.

At Peters Township. Know who always get overlooked in discussions of great WPIAL athletes —Jimmy Gallagher. He was fantastic here. Incredible QB and baseball player and blocked in AAA by Adam Dunn and Alex Rios when White Sox were legit. Great pure athlete.

@anauburntiger No I don’t. He’d been making delayed calls most of the game. More than likely just a younger ump having the game sped up on him a little bit and not as used to the velo and movement of big league late inning high leverage guys. It happens, wish it didn’t happen in that situation!

@olddochime @eYARKulation @BloopAndABlast I don’t think it makes much of a difference because every team has strengths and weaknesses vs LHP and RHP, amount of LHH/Switch/RHH, the rotation strategy is more prevalent in the post season when you can set up to your strengths and/or opponents weaknesses

I totally get the “Shelton and Cherington should be held accountable together” rhetoric. That makes sense. The sudden defense the media is playing for Kelly though is pretty funny. Oh so now it’s *all* the GM’s fault that they suck. Nobody criticize the manager.
