He “won” because he wanted security through a peace deal with the US and threatened to go nuclear if not; the US underestimated him and tried to bully him and isolate him; so he went nuclear, and there is nothing that the US now can do about it. The US seems to be willing Iran to go down exactly the same road. Crazy. US strategy and diplomacy is a disaster.
