I wonder if these dudes still play?
Dr. Lemma@DoctorLemma

20 years ago, a man screamed his own name into a microphone and ruined everything. It became one of the most famous moments in internet history. A group of players in an online game called World of Warcraft had spent several minutes planning a complicated raid. Timing, positioning, survival odds. One player calculated their chances of success at 32.33 percent, repeating. The whole time, one of their teammates wasn’t listening. He’d stepped away from his computer to reheat some chicken. When he came back, he ignored everything, screamed his character’s name at the top of his lungs, and charged straight into the fight alone. Everyone followed him in. They all died in seconds. “Leeroy, you are just stupid as hell.” “At least I have chicken.” The clip spread across the internet before “going viral” was even a phrase. It was referenced in South Park, How I Met Your Mother, and an article in a military journal. The game’s developer added the character as an official figure inside the game. His name became shorthand for anyone who ruins a plan by doing something reckless. The whole thing was staged. The group admitted years later it was a scripted re-enactment of something that had actually happened. The cameraman said: “We didn’t think anyone would believe it was real. We thought it was so obviously satire.” The player behind Leeroy Jenkins is a guy named Ben Schulz. He repairs industrial lighting for a living.

@terminallyOL Crimson Desert didn’t put a disclaimer about diversity in the opening. It’s still slop, but it’s anti woke slop… apparently.

it was like, five or six years ago, i wanna say when AC valhalla came out, that a game map like this would have been called "ubislop trash" and "junk to fill up an open world" so i'm just kind of confused as to why this is raising the bar and good now

@MadKamikazius Six months modeling a left ass-cheek or six months building complex interactions with the world?

A lot of them are actually less complex than older games. Bigger, yes, but far more shallow. The average modern open world RPG has less complexity than Morrowind and Gothic 2 had almost 25 years ago. Or even Ultima VII almost 35 years ago! Larger but simpler.

“People don’t realise video games these days are bigger and more complex, that’s why they take so long to make!” Yeah, but do they have to be? 🤔🤷‍♂️

@CrushinNatty I don’t think we should deploy ground troops either. I’m of the opinion we never should’ve started this war in the first place for a multitude of reasons. Apparently Hegseth is high on his own product and thought dropping a couple bombs would make Iran surrender their oil.

@NotReallyVegan My bad and agree with your point. On this I’m still a no, mainly because we’ve seen the propaganda from them simply damaging radars and the panicky falsehoods about capturing and killing more of our troops. Even one would be catastrophic for that alone

@CrushinNatty Oh I wasn’t trying to talk strategy. I’m out of my depth there. I was referring to the reason we’ll deploy ground troops makes sense when you understand the goal isn’t winning.

@NotReallyVegan From a strategic point of view, fully agree. But my mans gotta stop the tough guy talk, as militarily they may be the biggest paper tiger that’s ever existed. They’d be better just sticking with the Jim Cramer posts

@CrushinNatty They’re not trying to win a war, they’re trying to take control over natural resources.

@CrushinNatty Launching bombs at a hurricane would’ve at least yielded no results, versus this war which has literally ruined global trade.

@thiseffingm @ianharber Lewis and Tolkien had the good sense not to turn themselves into amateur political commentators in public spaces, regardless of their views which is why they ate judged by their art alone (typically).

Cancelling Harry Potter because of Rowling but remaking/doing spin offs of Narnia and LOTR despite Lewis and Tolkien being two of the most prominent Christian figures of the last century who undoubtedly share Rowling’s views she’s been cancelled for. Make it make sense.

People don’t understand the OT disagreement. It is that Pick 9 is a PREMIUM pick. A pick the Chiefs will probably never have with Mahomes. Using that pick on dubious RT prospects over an Edge or WR is the main issue. Max I, Miller, Proctor at Pick 29 for RT? That’s fine.

There are so many RPGs out there without any sort of sequel, great games like Radiant Historia and Skies of Arcadia. What RPGs would you immediately buy if they finally got a sequel?

@regularaugust OoT wasn’t Glover janky, but come on. Not dated in the slightest? Literally a second analog stick for camera adjustment would improve upon the awkwardly z-targeting in random directions and accidentally targeting some nonsense and having to use C-Up instead.

Look, I know a lot of n64 games were really awkward and janky considering many devs were adapting to an unfamiliar new era + that controller, but OOT isn’t dated in the slightest. The amount of people I’ve seen wanting a remake is baffling

@newbiedm I just don’t get this. I have level 17 characters and they are still on their toes. I’m not saying they are on the same level as older games but I don’t feel in my games too much that this is an issue as they are often about to die.

I think this is why I am starting to really have a problem with 5.5e. I'm not sure why we've tolerated this insane amount of power creep in dnd. 5e was meant to sort of go back to the roots but with modern design. Not... not happening anymore. man-of-ages.com/blog-posts/the…
