@ILovesTheDiff The unremarkable, dilapidated terraces were right to go (albeit w community moved locally, not across the city) - but more architecturally significant pieces of Butetown could & should have been salvaged/upgraded. But that was just postwar urban planning. Just sweep the lot away.

Whenever I see the excellent renewal work done on the Welsh Streets in Liverpool, I often find myself thinking of old Butetown. I wonder what Butetown would have been like if, instead of flattening everything, we repaired the houses, kept the streets, didnt scatter the community
