No matter what you think about J Cole’s apology, he chose to publicly embarrass himself in one of the biggest moments of his career in order to stay true to himself. That’s the realest shit ever. It’s still disappointing from a rap perspective, but immensely respectable as a man

Beyoncé holds the record for most Grammy wins in history with 32. Kendrick Lamar won five in a single night for To Pimp a Butterfly, an uncompromising, jazz-influenced concept album that took every risk imaginable. These aren’t accidents. These are the results of artists who refused to play it safe.
This narrative needs to stop, especially within hip-hop, a genre that carries more cultural weight and influence than almost anything in music today. You can’t expect the Grammys to understand and respect the art while simultaneously boycotting the institution. Engagement drives recognition. Absence only confirms the disconnect!
