There's just no way the actual audience rating is 97% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Metacritic has the movie at a 5.3/10 user score, Letterboxd has it at 4.3 and IMDB has it at 8.3/10.
Rotten Tomatoes is removing negative reviews at the behest of the studio.

The Odyssey has officially overtaken The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King on Rotten Tomatoes. Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey sits at 95% reviews, edging past The Return of the King, which holds 94%. On the audience side, The Odyssey also leads so far with a 97% Popcornmeter score from verified ratings, compared to The Return of the King’s 86% audience score.

@asietaihan @Anc_Aesthetics Community notes did add, as he was trying to make a 4.3/5 sound like a bad rating 😂
English

@Anc_Aesthetics Oh my gosh. I don't really know if Community Notes adds anything anymore. No mention of Metacritic, and the point is that audiences do not rate the Odyssey at 97 percent or any scaled version.

@pureMetatron Being from the cyclops lineage, I'm still pissed he didn't represent my people in a historically accurate way
English

@mypalal I love how these jokers always call anyone who disagrees with their opinion of a film "angry."
My review lays out pretty clearly what I didn't like about the film and anger had nothing to do with it.
English

Yes, this movie united Ben Shapiro with even his harshest critics.

Here’s another funny thing about THE ODYSSEY - both conservatives AND liberals are loving it. So the hive-mind haters don’t really represent anyone except those is their angry little bubble.🤣
English

The trades are saying THE ODYSSEY could open to $100 million this weekend.
Maybe it does, but box-office tracking has been pulling numbers out of a wizard’s hat all summer.
SUPERGIRL. MOANA. MINIONS & MONSTERS.
Big projections. Smaller crowds. Then everyone quickly and quietly moves on to the next forecast.
Now sold-out IMAX screenings are being used as proof THE ODYSSEY is about to explode.
Great. We knew IMAX would sell. This movie has been marketed to hell and back that IMAX is the ONLY way to see the movie.
Where are the people in the normal theaters?
I’ve checked showtimes around Olympia, Seattle, Portland and San Diego. Outside of premium formats, a lot of those auditoriums look deader than Achilles.
Maybe walk-ups save it. Maybe Nolan’s name gets it there.
But IMAX has a ceiling. Expensive tickets cannot replace thousands of standard screens that still need actual people sitting in them.
21% of OPPENHEIMER's opening weekend was IMAX.
At this point, box-office tracking feels less like forecasting and more like studio marketing with a calculator taped to it.
Maybe THE ODYSSEY hits $100 million.
But until those standard seats start moving, the math ain’t mathing.

English

@FilmUpdates It will have to make $700 million to break even after marketing and theater costs.

Remember that, just yesterday, I posted that every single #TheOdyssey screening up to AUG 03 was sold out at the giant BFI IMAX in London?
Well, after yesterday’s groundbreaking debut + WOM spreading like wildfire, now every screening up to AUG 24 is officially sold out.
Don’t be shocked if, by the end of the weekend, all screenings up to SEP 10 end up being completely sold out. And we are still on JUL 18 😅
#TheOdyssey has a real shot into becoming the highest grossing film of ALL TIME in IMAX theatres if similar frenzy spreads globally after this weekend!

English

@tomthespiderguy @Luiz_Fernando_J I saw the global box office twitter account say that, and Google ai also said that number. I didn't do any research further than that yet tho

Hmmm i'm starting to think the reviewers might be a bit biased

rain's man@tushartweets38
Not even in ten lifetimes could Nolan direct a battle scene this epic.
English

@themegamanusa @DDayCobra @Merlinbased07 @Luiz_Fernando_J Holy cope, I notice you ignored my question asking where you got your data from
English

@shane_chaffin @Pirat_Nation There was many coordinated boycott attempts
English

@Pirat_Nation What boycott?
It’s not some coordinated campaign, we just don’t want to spend money to go see a shitty movie
English

According to WIRED, the backlash against Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey “failed tremendously.”
Before the movie’s release, people called for a boycott over its diverse cast, modern dialogue, and other creative choices, labeling it “woke”
According to WIRED, those boycott efforts had little impact.
IMAX screenings sold out, resale tickets reached as high as $1,000, and the film is expected to earn over $200 million worldwide in its opening weekend.
It also holds a 96% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes.

English

@AI_EmeraldApple @Pirat_Nation It was projected to do 200 opening weekend actually. Now its closer to 257, so much better than predicted
English

@Pirat_Nation It's basically as predicted. The front loaded interest in the movie meant that the first weekend sales are going to be very high. But negative sentiment is going to drag sales later in the month and into next month as other movies like spider man releases.
English

@eldarmark @Pirat_Nation Nah, people were pushing it would flop heavily. Especially when the final trailer came out and had like 700k dislikes
English

@Pirat_Nation Yeah they're overstating the "backlash." People laughed at Hellen of Detroit but every single commentator I heard said flat out "this movie is going to make a ton of money" and the like. It was never going to bomb-bomb.
They're so desperate for a woke-win, it's sad.
English

@Real_SilverLine @Pirat_Nation I can tell you have no idea what you're talking about, its having a massive opening weekend
English

@DDayCobra @Luiz_Fernando_J Who said it was going to flop?
English

@DDayCobra @Luiz_Fernando_J It would need to be in theaters for ages to rely on 70mm to criss a billion.
