@OSINTWarfare Why did expensive US warplanes suddenly start falling like doves in the skies over Iran? 🤔

Both Reuters and the Wall Street Journal, citing officials with knowledge on the matter, have confirmed that an F-15E was shot down in Iran, with the Wall Street Journal saying that people familiar with the situation have confirmed to them that CSAR is underway.

Iranian state-run media has posted several images of wreckage from an American fighter jet that was allegedly downed today over Iran, with the images appearing to show the rear stabilizer and other parts of an F-15E Strike Eagle with U.S. Air Force’s 494th Fighter Squadron (494th FS), based out of RAF Lakenheath, which was deployed in recent months to the Middle East in the buildup to Operation Epic Fury.

@Scooter1355 @sentdefender The vertical stabiliser does resemble the same livery as the F-15s from 494th sqn. Also you can make out the word ‘Europe’ which is part of their logo: ‘US Air forces in Europe’. 335th is based in the US, so it doesn’t have the same markings

@Scooter1355 @sentdefender I’m not saying I believe Iran. For all we know this could be recycled footage from a previous crash. All I’m saying is that the livery from the pictures does not match the livery of the F-15Es shot down in Kuwait in early march

@Oreo74220350 @sentdefender You believe Iran....that's funny. I could say a lot here, but I won't. CENTCOM will follow up with the facts that Iran never shot down our F-15.

@Scooter1355 @sentdefender The ones shot down in Kuwait were from the 335th fighter squadron, not 494th. The livery on the vertical stabiliser looks completely different

PAF F-16A from No. 9 Multi-role Squadron "Griffins", Taking off from an Operational Airbase of Pakistan Airforce. Beginning around 2004, the PAF was Increasingly Tasked with supporting Army Units engaged in Counterinsurgency Operations. This represented a Shift from its Conventional Air Warfare Focus to Close Air Support (CAS) in Mountainous Terrain, often in TIC (time-critical troops-in-contact) Situations. Early operations Exposed Significant Capability Gaps. Fixed-wing CAS Doctrine was Optimized for Conventional Warfare, NOT dispersed insurgent Targets Operating Close to Friendly Forces. Most Critically, the PAF Lacked a Credible Night CAS Capability, limiting Responsiveness during Emergencies. These Shortcomings became Evident during a TIC incident near Fort Ladha, South Waziristan, in December 2007. Army units came under Sustained Militant Attack at around 0400 hours and Urgently requested Air Support. While Senior-level coordination occurred immediately, Strikes could not be launched until daylight. Ground Troops were Forced to hold their Positions under Extreme Pressure. Mission Planning the following morning Highlighted additional Constraints. With no Real-time ISR, Planners relied heavily on "Google Earth" imagery Combined with Ground Commanders Descriptions to identify Terrain Features, Enemy Positions, and Escape Routes. F-16s were Tasked and Launched to conduct Low-altitude Visual Confirmation Passes before delivering Strikes against identified Threats near the fort. The mission succeeded, but the Delay Highlighted the Risks Posed by limited Night Capability. Subsequent Operations, Notably in Bajaur in August 2008, Tested improved joint Procedures. In another TIC scenario, F-16s provided repeated CAS sorties, delivering Precision strikes when Feasible and Non-kinetic effects when Proximity to Friendly forces Constrained Weapons use. Air support played a key role in Stabilizing the Situation, Enabling Ground units to Break contact. Overall, this experience Significantly Accelerated PAF's Transition into a more Capable force in the Domain of Counterinsurgency CAS, Shaping its Doctrine and Long-term Effectiveness in COIN operations.
