One problem I can see with these Byrna pistols is with them being non-lethal, people not treating the situation of a traffic stop like they should if they had an actual gun in the vehicle. Luckily the cop didn't immediately escalate it. These get promoted pretty hard on conservative podcasts so I went and watched some demo videos of them on YouTube and they look pretty much useless for anything other than pain deterrence, which means almost totally useless. Everyone saying they're effective has an affiliate link but in the videos I saw where they actually used them on people the pepper rounds either failed to burst on all the torso impacts, effectively making them kinetic rounds, or they burst and the powder just sort of fell to the ground. The one guy that it worked properly on got hit in the face and it burst against his cheek bone. The other people the pepper balls sort of worked on were holding a board in front of their chest or standing next to a wall and let it impact next to them. Pepper spray seems a much better option than these.
