the worst part of manhattan isn’t the rent or the crowds, it’s the constant shriek of ambulance / fire trucks sirens slicing through your head at all hours.
every 2 minutes you get a piercing dopamine interrupt just so someone can move through traffic 5% faster. no city that fancies itself advanced should tolerate that kind of acoustic violence.
collective humanity makes such shitty decisions & then usually doubles down on them.

As I’ve said before: Engagement in blatantly antisocial behavior in public spaces—like smoking on the subway—is an expression of power backed by a very credible threat of violence. It’s a win/win for the perps. If you hold your tongue, they get off on your silence insofar as it reinforces their self-perception as a tough guy; and if you speak up, it gives them an excuse to be violent.
Those arguing that such antisocial behavior shouldn’t be policed are inviting the decay of our shared spaces. We must never surrender our subways to the thugs who act out to assert dominance over them and other public spaces.

One thing that always strikes me is how much focus there is on crime and personal safety for obvious reasons, yet Americans just seem to accept that over 40,000 people die in traffic accidents every year and never really talk about trying to bring that number down

Property taxes are the most efficient and equitable tax humans have devised. They could only be improved by shifting more of the tax to the value of the unimproved land rather than the structures.

Hi. We need to completely abolish property taxes. It forces us to pay “rent” to the government on property that we own, but if we don’t pay property taxes, the property that we own gets taken away from us. That should never happen in a free country. Secondly, health insurance is a giant scam that has become completely unaffordable. And it doesn’t make any sense and I don’t know anyone, and I mean anyone, that supports the current healthcare system in the United States. These are American Only issues and such significant problems that we should be addressing them the same way we would if our house was on fire. America Only!!!!!

These people really want a walkable suburb — not so much a city. "soft hum of bicycles, conversation, tinkling of dinnerware" that's just a restaurant patio, not a city.

I’ve been to multiple cities in Europe in low/no traffic neighborhoods. The loudest sound was laughter (children in the day and people at sidewalk restaurants at night). The background noises were the soft hum of bicycles going by, conversation and the tinkling of dinnerware.😌
