Ty patrzysz na te obrazki i widzisz okrucieństwo. Ja patrzę i widzę humanitarne traktowanie. Już wyjaśniam, o co chodzi. Biali plantatorzy zakładali swoim niewolnikom kagańce służące do zapobiegania jedzeniu ziemi. Maski te bywały koniecznością, ponieważ wielu murzynów zwyczajnie połykało błoto, glinę czy muł, przez co później chorowali albo umierali. Zjawisko geofagii, czyli łaknienia i pożywiania się ziemią, odnotowano w różnych regionach Afryki na długo przed europejską kolonizacją. Praktyki te stoją w ostrym kontraście do tego jak np. Arabowie traktowali czarnych niewolników.
