I think I'm at the point of interviews where I feel like I'm in a swimming pool and I can't get out and I'm just like please make it stop but the only way to make it stop is to land a job from one of the interviews

The fact that children think there is nothing else to do apart from be on social media is crazy.
Go to park, movies, library, play sports, ice skating, skateboarding, swimming, dance club, make music, make art, cook, bake, read, speak to each other face to face and have fun!

@Rayosweets Are you serious? That it is a fair balance that millions of UK people have to give their passports/driving licences to social media companies notorious for not being secure? It is surveillance on steroids.

As someone who works in a profession that has witnessed so many harms social media can cause to under-16s, I believe the government is definitely looking to safeguard against the harm social media platforms can/have caused to children.
The companies are not willing to help unless they are caught.
Is it too strict an approach? Yes
Will it save the lives of under-16s? Yes!
We have many young people battling with mental health illnesses/breakdown because of social media .

@S_Fleary1 I do a lot with my kids, I can afford it, we’re inventive and have time and space to think (decent WFH jobs, aren’t in constant state of fear).
Just saw an ad for a bubble show tickets would be £80, for me and 2 kids add travel and lunch.
Social media is cheaper.

@Perrichamps Definitely agree with you! I added the cost issue at the end of the thread. There needs to be something put in place for when the ban comes into effect. Special discounts on activities or free stuff they can do - especially in this economy!

@aChildOf2Worlds @theashrb Summer camp (like day activity at the school nothing fancy) is £30 a day from 9-5 for my child.
Swimming £40pm (30min pw)
Jujitsu, £50 pm
My teenage goddaughters will be at home as classes/activities are £££ pw over summer.
We need to invest in this shit

@theashrb This is a point but it depends how you were raised/where you lived. A lot of the centres I didn’t use/weren’t near me, I was just at home or drama/kickboxing (which parents paid for). I was kept away from smartphones until like 14ish? It’s gonna be interesting to see the impact.

We had a lot more things to do when we were their age tho, and these things were often free or very cheap. Is that the same today?

There are so many issues in this video, omds. The social media era of the internet really has convinced kids there’s no other way to communicate other than via a social media app. If screen time was 4.5 hours each day…we’ve got BIG problems boy.

@funkomi Yep - mine is currently obsessed with a YT cookery show, but in general the stuff he learns and teaches us about is huge.
The focus needs to be on cleaning up SM.
Presumably idea is my son can still be referred to as a N as long as kids cannot access SM?

Banning YT for kids is nanny state madness. My son has his perfectly algorithmic phonics and number blocks etc on YT kids and we simply limit the time he spends using it. The school sends us these YT vids weekly, mind you. I also don’t want Blippi / Ms Rachel on my algorithm.

I think I can just remember a time when the vast majority of migrants who sought sanctuary on UK shores were received with compassion & understanding. It was repaid by most contributing massively to our society. We have now descended into a sewer of inhumanity that shames us.
