I was two weeks into a pastoral internship when a brave woman disclosed the sexual abuse she suffered from a revered former pastor - she was one of seven. There were too many more cases in the next 35 years of ministry in the church. Watch this documentary ...

I am a Christian and I am diagnosed with bipolar disorder. One thing I learned in the last 24 hours… Christians need to be talking about mental health. Christians need to be vulnerable about what they are diagnosed with and what they are experiencing so that other Christians know it’s okay to: 1. See a Dr. 2. Take Medication 3. Go to Therapy You are not in sin. It’s okay to get help. Today, I feel downright weird. I feel a little agitated. This could be a sign I’m entering a manic state. I have no reason to feel agitated. I had a completely average day. I woke up with some allergies, but was otherwise well rested. Both my kids were behaving well all day, even playing with a friend. I spoke to some friends on the phone. I went to a work meeting, that was productive and interesting. I took a bath. I did all my laundry and cleaned the bathroom. Really, it’s been a pleasant day. Yet, I sit on the couch eating some carrots feeling a gnawing irritation bubbling up to the surface. This is what it’s like to live with bipolar. I question each whisper of an emotion that crosses the threshold of my mind. Is this an episode? I take a deep breath hoping to assuage the internal stirrings. But, to not avail. I’m medicated, and yet an episode can still present itself. Though, often mild, it is still disruptive. I did not choose to be in a fussy mood. I’m not lacking trust in God. I am not mad at something that has *actually* happened. I am not annoyed because of anything at all. Logically, why do I feel this way at all? Well, because I’m unwell. My brain is not in sync with my logical mind. I wish I could will myself to equilibrium. No one wants to feel annoyed. But, this is the nature of my disorder. Will I feel fine tomorrow? Possibly. I took an emergency sedative that should hopefully stop the episode. But, it may last days or weeks even. (Though unlikely because I religiously take my medication.) Why am I sharing something so incredibly personal? So that those who suffer, feel seen. I share because I am not ashamed of my disorder. I’m not afraid of being judged, I’m not afraid of someone using it against me. This is my experience, and my Psychiatrist has diagnosed me with bipolar. If you are a Christian who is suffering like me, please seek help. Do not strong arm your brain in hopes that your mental illness will disappear. Take care of your brain like you would any other part of your body. God be with you. And for a book worth every penny read Devout by @anna_gazmarian

@JoashPThomas But it wasn’t even the Last Supper; it was the Feast of Dionysus.

@gpackiam True - but more than likely it was the Feast of Dionysus and not the Last Supper.

Mocking a global ancient religion at the global ancient games is kind of a stunning choice— Christianity aside.
