@DragulasCave @soracloud3924 I think it's just because it's the most committed to the original premise of being a Disney crossover property. The focus slowly moved towards being its own thing, and now the Disney aspect is hardly relevant as a result

Major impact point in the game, especially back in 2002 when there was no previous entry to compare with. The tone shift arriving at HB on first arrival is severely unmatched. Still stands as the best pivot moment for me in the series.

@samhardiman92 @ChuckMurison @eevblog It is. The purpose is actually to do presence detection, so if nobody walks by for 6 hours it can guess nobody is in the house and start cutting back on HVAC run time to save energy.

@SandyofCthulhu This. I love playing beast races specifically because they have different mindsets, instincts, and worldviews that clash with the human majority of most campaigns.
Without that, you're basically just playing an furry archetype, which is usually just kinda cringe.

The more you humanize a non-human, the less compelling those non-humans become.
For me one of the lowest points of The Hobbit films was when they had Thorin flirting with Tauriel. Throughout all the books and previous movies, dwarfs showed zero interest in romance. Now suddenly one’s making eyes at an ELF?! Ugh .

@AdeIica @PRabbitholes I liked the story, but I won't lie the delivery was a bit janky. Felt like you needed to read a plot synopsis before it clicked.
The dev textures were an artistic choice since it's set in a half-finished video game. I loved the aesthetic and thought it was pretty cohesive

@PRabbitholes Boneworks is a great physics simulation sandbox, but it doesn't really do story or levels that well. Story is so mid and most of it is told to you via mp4s played on a TV, especially disappointing at the end of the game. Levels are mostly dev textures.

Most of its issues are just a solo dev biting off a bit more ambition than he had the resources for. Not a bad game at all though, I still had a lot of fun with it.

@LostLoreScholar All death saves do is make true balance impossible. Either everything is too easy and there's a pretty low risk of actual death, which makes combat pointless. Or everything basically instantly kills everyone with no way to fight back.

Death Saves try to fix the issue of emotional backlash from players but actually make that issue worse by forcing the DM to 'extra focus' a PC to kill them.

Player: Don’t you mean initiative? 80s DM: What are you on about? I said make a save vs poison! Player: Ok… I failed… 80s DM: You die, hand me your character sheet and start rolling a new character.

@jppheonix @LostLoreScholar Special OC Self Inserts have been a problem forever. Fuck, you should see some of the horrors Old World of Darkness players cooked up. Worse than even the most special of 5e snowflakes.
Murder Hobos are mostly just a player temperament issue.

@BlowSlots @BenjiGameDev Meaningful interactions are difficult in VR, since the lack of physicality is something players notice quick. And you're constantly running into pretty brutal performance thresholds with little wiggle room, which makes it even harder.

I can only speak from my own experience making VR games in the early days (DK2) - it's just a really difficult medium to design for. It didn't unlock any crazy new gameplay innovations like we thought it might, so it has very few positives to offset the many downsides

LotR roleplaying being the key example, but there was a slew of D20 branded games in the 2000s that were officially licensed Wizards products until they rugpulled all their partners with 3.5e, killing the entire venture.

Just watched the new Magic the Gathering Secrets of Strixhaven trailer. I'm not a Magic guy but I AM a D&D guy.
This is, to me, the epitome of millennial Dungeons and Dragons.

What I've learned today is that apparently it's absolutely fine to give out business cards at sponsored events, because that's a business card and normal corporate behavior.
