First off pride parades already get federal, provincial & municipal funding as do many parades & festivals. Second, let’s not forget why they need additional federal funding. It’s because their corporate sponsors have had enough of the ever expanding alphabet of craziness that has been tagged on to the original LGB movement that sought equality for gay & lesbian CDN’s. They have gained legal equality & social acceptance & celebrating that was something that attracted corporate sponsorship but when the T was added & went beyond adult drag shoes & adults making adult choices & instead began targeting children & female sports & the LBG community went along, the blowback became more than corporations were willing to accept. Add in some stupidity like letting the BLM movement or the Queers for Palestine crazies & corporate Canada bailed. The answer isn’t the feds backstopping pride parades or festivals with more taxpayer dollars, the answer is the return of sanity to the LGB community & remembering what these parades are supposed to represent….a celebration of acceptance & equality!
