On Friday, I fly to Tel Aviv to visit Israel for the first time in my life. I will be in the country for 10 days as part of a sponsored trip that includes journalists, opinion writers and thought leaders. I'm both excited and nervous for this journey, particularly given the ongoing instability in the region. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity will see our group visit the site of the Reim Nova Music Festival; visit the Kibbutz Nir Oz: the first place to be attacked on October 7, 2023; meet October 7 victims' families and friends; interact with military and intelligence officials; visit several kibbutzs; tour religious and historic sites in Jerusalem like the Western Wall, Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Via Dolorosa and the Temple Mount; visit the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs; tour the Knesset and meet members of the Legislature. Even this seemingly exhaustive list of activities doesn't do justice to our itinerary. For my last four days in Israel, I will be solo in Tel Aviv exploring this incredibly diverse city and hopefully reporting on its 2SLGBTQ+ community and what it is grappling with in a post-October 7 world. It will undoubtedly be a somber and heavy trip, emotionally, but hopefully an extremely educational and rewarding one. I plan to make the most of it and document my travels and learnings throughout my 10 days in Israel. #cdnpoli #onpoli #topoli #Israel
