@Lyn_Poster__ @GrandZeroGaming "Arguably a complete failure inferior to the Hs293" No, it's not arguable. The ASM-2-N worked exactly as intended. The Hs293 was command guided, not active radar guided, and was useless at night or when fighters could attack the command plane. The 293 was inferior.

"the Luftwaffe didn't need long range escorts" That was one of the jobs of the BF-110, which it failed at spectacularly.

@_FMradio_ @KampfgruppeKrag That's unfair. I am very impressed by the Me-163's ability to kill its pilots. I'd also argue the P-38 and P-47 are more impressive due to the turbosuperchargers, but that's just my opinion.

@Ralph0451 It would be very different, plus increased air arm presence might mean that the whole "air force operating on Eastern rules saying no air support available because their are no strike aircraft available, taken by navy operating on med rules as nothing available" doesn't happen

This is a good bit of research... but on the counter if Indomitable or Illustrious had been available, the need for a carrier component in Force Z had already been identified when Ark Royal was afloat; so whilst they might not have gone, they might have freed up something else to

@isengrimm3 @thegeneralboard @cdrsalamander In the specific context of how the attack unfolded historically, I think she has a pretty good chance. The Fulmar is perfectly capable of shooting down unarmed, unarmored, and unescorted torpedo bombers attacking piecemeal in small 9 plane groups.

The Soviet Union had notional equality of the sexes but almost no women in leadership positions. Women also played very traditional roles at home (taking care of cooking, cleaning, raising kids) while working full time — this even has a name, the ‘double burden’ (analogous to what sociologists call the ‘second shift’ for American women). Women were half the workforce but clustered in low-paying sectors (education, health, light industry), resulting in a 30% pay gap, and even in sectors they dominated, they rarely made it to the top positions.

The £3.5bn HMS Prince Of Wales has broken down again in Norway. Before 1987 every single ship in the British Navy was made by the Government. Since 1989 they have ALL been built by Private companies and like HS2, Nuclear, Water and Mail. They are all garbage.
