This evening, I was honored to be recognized as the inaugural Legislator of the Year by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Mississippi. I’m not just a supporter, I’m a former Club kid myself. I’ve seen firsthand how valuable the Boys & Girls Club can be for young people who need a safe place to go after school or a mentor to help guide them in the right direction. While I’m grateful for the recognition, I’m even more thankful for the dedicated staff, volunteers, and supporters who work every day to ensure the Boys & Girls Clubs are there to serve the youth of Mississippi. Thank you to the 122 House members that voted to prioritize Mississippi teachers, state employees, and taxpayers. House Education Chairman @robroberson43 and Reps. @KentMcCarty, @JansenOwen, and @Repkwfelsher have worked tirelessly and are to be commended. The House will not rest on the time we have been afforded here. We are going to focus on doing big things that positively impact Mississippians. To our teachers, you deserve no less and you deserve the truth. If you are an educator, or passionate about our education system, a first responder, or concerned about PERS Tier 5, read Senate Bill 2103 as amended by the House and decide for yourself if want your State Senate to deliberate, or continue with inaction. This is not about ownership or legislation being finalized in a House Bill versus a Senate bill; as the only vehicle alive now is a Senate Bill amended by the House. This is about pursuing the best policy on the table for Mississippians. In the House, Mississippians will remain the focus, not political plays.

Today the House again passed a teacher and assistant teacher pay raise by a unanimous vote of 122-0. We also passed PERS reform restoring retirement eligibility to 30 years of service for teachers and 25 years for first responders, while allowing retired teachers to return to the classroom. Mississippi values our teachers and those who protect our communities. I’m proud of the leadership shown by Speaker of the House Jason White in advancing these important reforms. Ten years ago, Mississippi was ranked 50th for mental health. Today, we're 28th. More work to be done, but our state is making a lot of progress.

As the author of Mississippi’s 988 crisis hotline legislation and a member of the First Responders Suicide Prevention and PTSD Task Force, I remain committed to ensuring every Mississippian has access to life-saving resources and support. Today America lost a true patriot. @charliekirk11 never shied away from engaging those who disagreed with him, and he stood firm in his beliefs. He inspired countless of young people, and his accomplishments will long outlast the cowardly act that took his life. Please keep his family in your prayers.

One of the best parts of my job is getting to listen to Mississippi’s next generation of leaders. Enjoyed visiting with this great group of @msstate students at Dr. Keenum’s leadership class. Mississippi’s Momentum will continue thanks to them! THIS is THEIR time! Hail State!

Growing up in low-income housing, a man named Adrian Dodson knocked on my door and convinced my single mom to let me play peewee football. That one “yes” changed the rest of my life. Coach Dodson spent 40 years volunteering his time, no paycheck, no headlines, just mentoring kids and instilling leadership and discipline. I wouldn’t be where I am without him. His legacy isn’t just wins, it’s the thousands of lives he touched. Today, Coach Dodson was inducted into the Biloxi Sports Hall of Fame. A group of us former players and lifelong friends had the honor of celebrating with him. From all of us we say, thank you Coach. You’ll never fully know the impact you’ve had on so many. Enjoy your day, you’ve earned it!
