👏 Scaling hypertension control in the Philippines Our team recently partnered with @DOHgovph and @WHOPhilippines to facilitate another workshop for regional program managers overseeing noncommunicable disease programs. Program managers from 11 regions of the Philippines completed the training and worked on practical skills for implementing the WHO HEARTS technical package across service delivery, medicine access, workforce organization, and monitoring systems. All participating managers left with concrete action plans for hypertension control implementation in their region—turning insights into action.

The proportion of adults ages 18-54 who died of a severe first heart attack rose 57% between 2011 & 2022. Our Cardiovascular Health Initiative, in partnership with @ResolveTSL, is reducing preventable deaths from heart attacks & strokes all around the globe.

Lead exposure can have toxic effects on the entire body, including the heart. That’s why we’re working with Nigeria to build a national model focused on reducing lead in cosmetics, while also strengthening public health surveillance, regulation and broader government capacity to protect communities. In support of this work, we recently donated an X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) device to the Kano State Government. This device will strengthen the state’s ability to screen products for lead and other dangerous heavy metals. Officials can use the results of screenings to drive regulatory and public health decisions that protect communities from harmful lead exposure. We look forward to continuing our work with partners in Nigeria to reduce toxic lead exposure and create environments in which consumers can live long and healthy lives.

In a new video, Community Health Officer Ms. Pooja Yadav in Harda District, India, shares a story demonstrating the power of consistent care for women with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. Lead poisoning remains a serious but often overlooked public health challenge in Nigeria, affecting children, families, and communities. We are pleased to announce the Project Amplify: Lead Poisoning Prevention in Nigeria, implemented in partnership with @ResolveTSL and @Fmohnigeria. Through this collaboration, we will drive advocacy and strategic communications interventions that will support policy uptake, institutionalisation, and sustained public engagement towards the coordinated National action to prevent lead poisoning in Nigeria. #LeadFreeNaija

In India, we’re working with partners @Jhpiego and the Government of Madhya Pradesh to prototype a new program to train health care workers to identify and manage high blood pressure early—so pregnant women get the care they need, when they need it.

Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy are one of the leading causes of maternal deaths worldwide.

For years, we’ve worked with partners in India to scale blood pressure control programs. Through this work, we identified a consistent challenge: pregnant women are often underdiagnosed and undertreated for high blood pressure, or hypertension. This International Women’s Day, we’re highlighting our work with @Jhpiego and the Government of Madhya Pradesh to create and test simple, scalable solutions that can improve diagnosis and care for pregnant women with hypertension. New resource: Using Rapid Outbreak Financing to Prevent Epidemics In today’s interconnected world, disease outbreaks happen often and spread quickly. Rapid outbreak detection and response can save lives—but response teams often can’t access funds fast enough to investigate outbreaks and take action. Flexible rapid response funding offers a practical solution. As little as $5,000 at the right time and place can stop an epidemic in its tracks. “Together, we can help ensure that emergency readiness moves from aspiration to implementation and is embedded within primary health care systems that communities rely on every day.” Last week, our Director of Primary Health Care Dr. Stacey Mearns shared Resolve to Save Lives' vision for a safer world with nearly 50 experts from around the world at a global workshop in Cairo. For too long, primary health care systems have faced persistent gaps in emergency preparedness and response. That’s why we worked with partners @WHO and the Robert Koch Institute to create Emergency-Ready Primary Health Care (ERPHC), a framework that embeds emergency preparedness into primary health care. The ERPHC framework prepares primary health care systems to prevent, detect and respond to public health emergencies while maintaining essential health services. In Cairo, we worked to further refine the framework’s architecture and guidance as we prepare to introduce it to a global audience. The workshop marked an important step toward building resilient primary health care systems that are well-prepared for the next public health emergency. We are deeply grateful to our partners for their leadership and support.
