The 2 old AF-1s were delivered in 1990-91, ~35 yrs old, $325M each. They’re still flying but worn out & expensive to maintain. The new interim 747-8 was Qatar-gifted & modified ~$400M. Replacement program started under Obama. Trump didn’t order them—he renegotiated Boeing’s bloated contract in 2018 saving $1.4B for taxpayers & locked in better terms from what Obama was going to pay.

@JeremyTate41 Unfortunately this is not the case. Not only do we now know who built it we know how it was built and the building style was known and can be replicated. However, it certainly was an answer to the prayers of the sisters.
