Thanks @NIAIDNews for highlighting our work and for creating an environment where this bench-to-bedside work can be done!

A drug used for other conditions successfully alleviated symptoms of a rare genetic syndrome, autoimmune polyendocrine syndrome type 1 (APS-1). The #NIAID-led study sheds light on #autoimmune processes and possible treatments for related syndromes: go.nih.gov/QGhrTa5

Are all microbial domination states in the intestine similar? Do all domination states predict disease & infections? Check out the @MSKCancerCenter collaboration below. @cliao345 @T19R84 @TheXavierLab @BingZhai Ana Djukovic @tsonipeled @vandenBrinkLab nature.com/articles/s4156…

Our paper on the meaning of oral bacteria in feces is out in @NatureMicrobiol ! We suggest their increased relative abundance in the gut is due to depleted gut-resident bacteria, not their active growth. Huge thanks to @T19R84, Ana, @tmhohl71, Joao, and all collaborators!

Was awesome having Dr. Lewis Lanier (UCSF) present the third annual Dr. Christine Biron Lecture at Brown University this week and giving the history of NK cells - from their slow start to their meteoric rise! @ImmunologyAAI @brown_mmi

Hyphae promote Candida albicans fitness and commensalism in the gut nature.com/articles/s4157… This study shows that hyphae formation is critical for Candida albicans gut colonization in the presence of commensal bacteria owing to the production of a hyphal-associated factor.

We show that filamentation by Candida can help it compete with bacteria in the gut, and this is due to factors such as the toxin candidalysin. We propose that this toxin has a direct role in inhibiting commensal bacteria thereby helping the fungus colonize the gut.

A new #NIAID study helps explain why drugs that suppress C5, a protein in the complement system, put people at risk of deadly #fungal infections. These findings show C5 plays a key role in antifungal immunity. Read more in @cellpressnews: doi.org/10.1016/j.cell… #immunology
