COPS NOT ROBOTS None of this Intervenes and Increases Safety by Interrupting the Dangerous Driving
Tyler Mitchell@TylerMitchellIN

I just got an email back from @INDOT on the Safe Zone Program to catch speeders. From Aug. 5, 2024 – Mar. 3, 2026, $21,778,850.00 in fines have been issued, and $21,337,727.60 has been paid. Maybe @GovBraun doesn’t have to implement tolls on I-70 after all. Maybe we already have our source of funding.🧐 fox59.com/indiana-news/s…

I'm going to trust y'all with something 🙏🏽 Earlier today, my wife and I drove to the local grocery store we frequent. While driving there, the conversation shifted to how truly blessed we feel. Which is not something we discuss a lot. But it came up. We need to acknowledge it more often if I am being honest. But we did today. Today we were thankful. At the meat counter, I spoke with a young man who has worked there for some time. Behind the meat counter. He is always friendly and positive. He always asks how my weekend is going. He did today. I told him things had been busy, but that I was doing great. I asked him how he was doing. He said good, but that someone had stolen his E bike while it was parked inside the store in the corner. Some guy walked right out the front door with it. Now, this young man knows I am a Christian. Because I have told him so. And because I have invited him to attend church with us. But that's not why he told me about the theft of his E bike which serves as his transportation to and from work. He told me about it because he knows I am a cop. I covered the usual stuff with him. They had reported it. They had pulled video. He went on to tell me that, while he was bummed, he was making the best of it because now that he had to walk to and from work he was getting some exercise. And he smiled. And it was sincere. He packed up my order and held that sincere smile while handing it over. I told him I was sorry about his E bike. He said it was okay. There was something at a nearby big box store he guessed he would get when he saved up some money. I met my wife, and after plopping the package into the cart I told her what happened. She immediately responded, "We should go get him another bike." I told her I was thinking the exact same thing! We finished shopping and went to that big box store. $500 and it wasn't even a full size E bike - more like a scooter. We felt like we could do better We jumped online and found someone selling a full size, like new E bike just a few miles away. It was a little more expensive than the big box scooter but it was a like new, proper E bike. We messaged the seller and she responded immediately! 30 minutes later we had it in the car (it even folds up). And it was fully charged! We took it to that young man and gave it to him. He responded, "No way!" He asked if he could hug us! Of course we did (yes, I am a hugger....I know i know lol 😊). He said, "I love you guys." We told him we loved him back. He then said, "You guys answered my prayers." He went on to explain that he had been thinking about how hot it was getting. And he lives a considerable distance from the store. Like I said....I am trusting y'all with this. I am trusting you to believe me when I say that I'm not telling you this story to promote myself. I am telling you this because some days, I am a lousy Christian. But today, I think we got it right 🙏🏽 Please listen to God. Being the answer to someone's prayers is the most humbling, most amazing experience you can have. God bless 🙏🏽

Chicago John Dineen Lodge #7@FOP7Chicago

In Memory of a Pioneer and a Legend President John Dineen Wake: Sunday, March 29 - 3 p.m. Cooney Funeral Home 625 Busse Highway, Park Ridge Funeral: Monday, March 30 - Noon Saint Juliana Catholic Church 7201 N. Oketo Avenue, Chicago John Dineen, Ret CPD, born on July 4, 1936, on the West Side of Chicago to the late Tom and Dorothy Dineen, passed away on March 25, 2026. Beloved husband of Marilyn Dineen, nee Callahan, for 68 years. Loving father to Karen (John) Kissane, Susan Dineen, Cindy (Norb) Sliwa, John Michael Dineen, and Timothy (Ret CPD) (Sue) Dineen. Adored and devoted grandfather to AJ (CPD), Jonathan, Beth, Dave, Kyle, Kevin, Megan, Rose, Maggie, and Maddie. He was a great-grandfather to 11. Fond brother of Tom (the late Jean) and Patricia Hennessy, and revered uncle to many nieces and nephews. John was a proud St. Mel's alum, Army veteran, and devoted member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a longtime member of the CPD and the dedicated President of the Fraternal Order of Police for over twenty years, which also included a two-year term as the national @GLFOP President. He was a champion for labor rights and officer benefits whose decades of service and visionary leadership left a lasting impact on the department and all those he represented. John served as National FOP President while also leading @FOP7Chicago in 1980. When Chicago police officers voted to unionize, securing a contract became his primary focus. After the FOP won the right to represent those officers, John made one of the most selfless decisions in leadership. Rarely does a leader at the top step aside for a greater cause, yet that is exactly what he did. He left national office to lead Lodge 7 to its first collective bargaining agreement in 1981, and later worked to secure those rights permanently through the Illinois Labor Relations Act of 1983. That choice is what set him apart as a model of selfless leadership. Above all else, John enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to his caretakers, Kathy, Lynn, Maria, Alice, and nurse Margaret, for their kind and gentle service in the final chapter of his life.
