@prxmtyfx @JonBbC_TechGeek Elon said AI4 is capable of unsupervised safer than a human driver. Aside from that when asked about AI5 in cars he said there would be a new version of AI4 next year with the specs you listed. But he never said or implied any intent to upgrade existing AI4 cars.

@JonBbC_TechGeek AI4 is inadequate according to the earnings call yesterday, which is why they’re going to upgrade current AI4 to AI4+ which has newer generation memory and it will be increase from 16G to 32G.

I posted some comments on Tesla’s AI4… First, I’m just a random dude on 𝕏 who loves Tesla. I don’t think AI4 is the solution for Unsupervised. Even despite what we’re seeing for the Robotaxi rollout and amazing personal experiences, I don’t think people should hang their hat on AI4. As a proud HW3 owner, I’m not angry or upset. I’ve just tempered my expectations in a huge way after following Tesla closely since March 16th, 2016 when the Model 3 was first unveiled. My attempts to help others recalibrate their expectations may have come across as being disgruntled, pessimistic or rude. It’s helpful for AI4 owners who only started following Tesla closely since 2023 to understand that Tesla was fully confident that HW3 would be the solution for unsupervised. It was hyped like you wouldn’t believe. So any and all statements surrounding what will happen in the future for AI4 need to be taken with a huge grain of salt. Of course I hope AI4 is the solution for Unsupervised. Everyone wants that. Let’s see what happens, just please learn from my experience and don’t count on it. Because I don’t like reading posts from angry owners.

@JonBbC_TechGeek AI4 aside, unsupervised for personal use is unlikely. Robotaxi only and any fees, processes (car inspections), and additional insurance that costs. They won’t take liability otherwise. Won’t remote operate any personal car that gets stuck coming to get them at the airport/work.

@wokerandomism @qtttran @Tesla_AI I’ve been using FSD for 5 years almost daily. FSD 10.3 ->12.6.5 on my model 3. This year bought a HW4 model Y (FSD 14.2). I’ve had warnings to pay attention to the road many times. But I have never gotten a strike on either car. A strike requires serious delinquency.

After a slow start in the voting, “Make America Great Again” wins, with “Make Lying Wrong Again” coming in second. So let’s do both… Basic science research, which seeks objective truths in the natural world, is mostly invisible to the public. To many it's obscure & irrelevant. Yet it's the engine room of tech-innovation, itself the foundation of our health, wealth, and security. Cut funds for science & you ultimately leave us sick, poor, and unsafe. Feed that engine room and the heights of American greatness will know no bounds. Looks like a bipartisan Congress has just figured that out, even if the White House has not. commerce.senate.gov/2026/1/ves-exi…

@boztank My gen1 MRB can read my iMessages. It also can send iMessages via voice. Is that going away on MRB Display? If my MRB can do TTS and STT, then why can’t Display write them to screen and let me handwrite them and use exact same API to iMessage? Full access is a different story.

@brandonee916 I don’t get this change (2018 M3) but I’d way prefer it. If you consider a top down view of the car, Camera placement wise having those repeater cameras on top (more forward) makes way more spatial sense. It’s weird seeing a view form farther forward, below the reverse cam.

One thing about the Spring Update that I really dislike… the placement of the side cameras when reversing. It doesn’t make any logical sense to look up at those cameras when you need to look down to see the sides of the car. How do others feel about it?

@Fongdong6996 @Aviator_Pete @SawyerMerritt @Tesla @MarkRober Two different things. I have HW3 (can’t have FSD without HW3/HW4). Tesla upgraded me from HW2.5 to HW3 in 2019 since I purchased FSD previously (like your friend). However I still have MCU2 (Intel based) running the non-driving things. Newer cars have MCU3 (AMD Ryzen based)

NEWS: Mark Rober has just responded in a new interview to some of the questions revolving around his recent @Tesla video. Here's a brief summary: 1) His answer on why he used Autopilot and not Tesla's FSD: "My understanding with FSD is that you have to enter an address for it to work; The sensor is not different, whether it's FSD or Autopilot. Knowing if that's a wall or not, that doesn't change. I'd be happy to re-run the experiment in FSD, but I'm pretty confident it wouldn't be a different result." 2) His take on Autopilot disengaging 0.5 seconds before hitting the wall: "I don't know why it would disengage. I was not pulling on the steering wheel. My guess is maybe the ultrasonic sensors just disengage if they sense that something big is there.I don't have a horse in this race. I love my Tesla. I'll probably get a new one when they come out." 3) Mark on if there were multiple takes of hitting the wall: "There was; We did a take, it went right through, I think that was the one that was at 40 MPH. But instead of cutting through it, which would visually look cool, it just kinda tore through the side. 3 weeks later we went back out when schedule permitted, this time with a styrofoam wall. It went through the wall twice." 4) Mark on Luminar: "They gave us no money. They had no say in the edit. They did not approach us. I reached out to them and said hey will you let us borrow some cars. We didn't know what would happen. We told them if your LiDAR fails, it goes in the video. If Tesla passes, it would have gone in the video. I don't have a horse in this race; I do not own any Luminar stock. I have no options, no puts on Tesla. There's no financial anything in here." Mark finished by saying he plans on buying another Tesla in 6 months. Full interview linked in Philip's post below:

I grok'd it, it's more tricky than we all thought: "For 2022 Model 3s built before the October 2022 transition (when Tesla started removing USS from new builds), the ultrasonic sensors are still physically present and functional. However, when you enable Vision Only mode—or if your car received a software update aligning it with the Vision system—those sensors are largely ignored in favor of camera-based detection. Features like Park Assist or close-range object detection will lean on the cameras instead, though the USS might still be active in some limited capacity depending on your software version and specific configuration."

@RobCampbell @Aviator_Pete @SawyerMerritt @Tesla @MarkRober I have a 2022 M3P that does have ultrasonic sensors as well, but more than a year ago you could switch to "vision only", disabling the ultrasonics. This phase out started in 2022, by 2023 they stopped installing them on all models.

@Aviator_Pete @SawyerMerritt @Tesla @MarkRober it has been vision only for a LOOOONG time...unless you don't select that in the UI perhaps. Thought that option for vision only was gone (as in vision only was it, no other choice) Folks, am I wrong here?

@DirtyTesLa 12.6.3 on HW3 did this for me this morning too, but it was much more subtle and felt very human like. A second or two before the light turned green it started creeping very slowly.

FSD V13.x's ability to guess green lights... in this example it starts to move even before the cross walk changes, so it's not that. To me it looks like it sees cross traffic stopping and guesses "my turn's soon," but moves forward too fast.

@tesla_raj Weird. I just drove for an hour around South Bay in crazy rain with 12.6.3 and never saw an inclement weather warning. For sure it would have shown an FSD degraded message in past versions. That said, it was also not leaving comfortable spacing for wet roads. Had to brake twice.
