I’ll be actively campaigning from now through November 2026. I can’t do this alone; I need your support. Modest, monthly donations will fund the campaign through election day: russjrampton.com/donate

@Jensen_Utah @Limit_Its_Power @NormieUtah And if you live outside of CD1 and/or Salt Lake County, there is nothing interesting going on the Democrat primary. One of many reasons party affiliation is a bad indicator of political views.

I confirmed with SLCO clerk I could vote in the Democratic Primary as a registered Republican. As a new voter in the Gibson D+24 district, that‘s what I’m going to do. I’ll have to go in to get my Democratic Party primary ballot. But that’s fine. I’m not an incompetent, non-functional, boo hoo that’s too hard person. Voting in person is like picking up a loaf of bread.

Never been a better time to be a Utah Democrat! With election season just around the corner, make sure your voter registration and party affiliation are both accurate and up to date - be sure to change your party affiliation by the April 1st deadline! 🗳️

@JustinWStapley @TomMoyerUT The “civic” break assumes people work in the same jurisdiction where they can vote. This isn’t always the case. Also assumes they won’t be stuck in a line for hours.

Even without general mail in ballots, I still think generous absentee ballot policies would be effective and acceptable. Mail in ballots in such circumstances would have to be opted into based on established criteria. You can also have mandatory extended lunch breaks or "civic breaks" that require the service industry to allow a space of time during a shift to go and cast a vote.

I understand that the idea behind mail in ballots is to maximize how many votes are cast and thus increasing the representative nature of our government, and that mail in ballots offer an ability to cast a vote for those who are unable or for whom it is extremely difficult to cast a vote on election day. But the reality is that no approach too elections is going to engender 100% participation, so the question can't be, "Well wait a minute, this individual here needs such and such policy to be able to vote," the question has to be on generalities not specifics: which electoral process leads to the most participation and the most informed participation. And I assert that making election day a national holiday would lead to more participation overall, would become a civic celebration, and would avoid the spur of the moment demagoguery that takes place when votes can be cast on a whim in a wide period of time leading up to election day. Candidates should be building toward a final case to the people, when the people go together to vote at the end of campaign, rather than focused on gimmicks meant to steer emotion towards spur of the moment decisions.

@tidbits84 I’m not necessarily a fan of HB 209, but it is not as burdensome as the SAVE act. The NUMBER on an Utah Real ID (not the card itself) is proof of citizenship because the election offices can use it to verify that citizenship documents were presented.

Utah’s gov Cox finally got around to signing HB 209 voting amendments. This bill essentially makes it harder to vote in local elections than national ones. The bill requires Utahn’s to prove they are American citizens in order to vote in Utah local elections. Proof of citizenship must be presented at registration. Acceptable forms are: • A Utah driver’s license or state ID card that indicates U.S. citizenship. • Birth certificate. • U.S. passport. • Naturalization certificate or certificate of citizenship. • Tribal documents. When do the liberal women protests start?

@RussJRampton The Utah County Clerk’s office has a pretty shady track record. Perhaps they should look to great Clerk’s like @RickyHatchUT who focus on doing a great job and avoid political spotlights.

Davidson had two years to prepare for a large in-person voting turnout in Nov 2024. He was encouraging in-person voting and knew (or should have known) what to prepare for. And he wasn’t ready. He is not the person you should trust with a difficult endeavor.

"That's not what's happening with the SAVE America Act," [Henderson] wrote. "This bill would be effective immediately in the middle of an election year. It would be impossible to implement, on top of all its other problems." Difficult, Yes. Impossible, No ksl.com/article/514678…

@ARDavidson @AskNoMansLand @mikemckellutah HB 209 that requires “documentary proof of citizenship” will accept as proof my Real ID number. Does that provide Clerks with enough information now, or does a new system/feature need to be built to accommodate that?

@AskNoMansLand @mikemckellutah Sorry, County Clerks do not have any backend access to any documents that may have been presented to the DLD for citizenship verification.

@saltyutahn @LGHendersonUtah Utah already did this audit. Found about 1,300?deceased individuals on the rolls and looked for ways to better streamline the sharing of information from death certificate records to county clerks. There may have been 2 ballots submitted by deceased voters.

HB479 had an implementation date of 2029, so it would not have put a process in place to accommodate the SAVE Act. Also, portions of HB479 were based on Davidson’s “Fast Cast” voting experiment that was an Epic Fail in 2024, and abandoned in 2025.
Aaron Davidson@ARDavidson

Had @mikemckellutah not killed HB479 in committee two weeks ago, Utah would have had a process in place to accommodate the SAVE Act passing. ksl.com/article/514678…

I’ve been a state and county delegate for the last four years, as well as a precinct chair. But I declined to serve again at the last caucus. I just can’t play the two-party game anymore. I don’t quite know where that leaves me…
