@nippleointment @pfizer @ChemCatalysis Thanks for your suggestion- that's not something we have tried to date. Other standard dehydrating agents are not good for this reaction, but we haven't tried HMDS

@SandfordLab @pfizer @ChemCatalysis maybe you should also try hexamethyldisilazane as an ammonia surrogate - perhaps it would work even without added sieves

@nippleointment @pfizer @ChemCatalysis Thanks for your feedback! We are actively investigating other applications of these catalysts! Amides may not be the best substrates as they are unlikely to bind strongly to the catalyst, but formation and reactions of hydroxamic acids would certainly be interesting

@SandfordLab @pfizer @ChemCatalysis you should try it for other related dehydration reactions: primary amides to nitriles, also formation of hydroxamic acids (will you see Lossen rearrangement if you increase temperature?) A direct formation of amidines from amides would be also of a great interest, if it worked
