Petrol is taxed at MORE THAN 100% in India, confirmed by Upstox, July 2026. The highest GST slab is 28%. Petrol is taxed at 100%+. That's why both central and state govts refuse to bring it under GST. Your fuel carries a tax rate 3.5x higher than the 'luxury' goods slab.
