@CDogmatics @How2BeChristian @Rblv73 @counseloftrent @ShamelessPopery Heresy was obviously a part of the early church. All we can trust is the Bible. I put very little weight on the so called "Church Fathers". Read Paul's letters, he was dealing with all kinds of heresy in the Churches he founded. This is why sola scriptura is so important.

How to be Christian
How to be Christian@How2BeChristian·
Most Protestant ARE NOT Protestants because they have read the Bible and intelligently concluded that it is Protestant. Most Protestants ARE Protestants because they blindly followed someone who falsely claimed that the Bible is Protestant. When Christians actually read the Bible honestly, it becomes clear to them that Protestantism is the product of adding words to the Bible. // ✝️ In John chapter 6, we can read that Jesus said: “Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.” Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.” So they said to him, “Then what sign do you do, that we may see and believe you? What work do you perform? Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’” Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” They said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.” Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.” So the Jews grumbled about him, because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” They said, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does he now say, ‘I have come down from heaven’?” Jesus answered them, “Do not grumble among yourselves. No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day. It is written in the Prophets, ‘And they will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me— not that anyone has seen the Father except he who is from God; he has seen the Father. Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.” The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like the bread the fathers ate, and died. Whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” Jesus said these things in the synagogue, as he taught at Capernaum.” - John 6:25-59 ESV ✝️ // Learn more about the Word of God ⤵️ PART I - “What Does ‘Eat My Flesh’ Mean?”: youtu.be/eWDxM-6T4k0?si… PART II - “What Does ‘Eat My Flesh’ Mean?”: youtu.be/f-jinF-O3fM?si… 🙏 Please pray for this family! ⤵️

Can you show me any writing from a mainstream Christian leader before 400 AD that looks like modern Protestantism? If the earliest Christians would instantly recognize you but find Catholicism alien, it should be easy to quote them describing a faith that matches yours.
J Heckathorne, the Bible is enough@HeckathorneJay

@TomorrowsWar Hardly. The irony is Catholicism would be unrecognizable if it were biblical; yet the earliest Christian’s would have no problem recognizing you.

Wait excuse me why have we deflected to Mary’s virginity? I’m glad to have this conversation as well but why have you pivoted over here? Anyway since you want to have the conversation: All of the original Protestant Reformers(Luther, Calvin, Zwingli, Bullinger, Wesley, etc.) held and defended the perpetual virginity. And I think their words will speak louder than mine: defendingthebride.com/ma4/reformers.…

@ScoutingAlong @GrZmNkY09 @TomorrowsWar You define your arguments in a dishonest way. You say "the bible never says Mary had other children". Which is true technically but if Jill had Jim and Jim has 4 brothers, one can reasonably assume Jill had 5 kids sans any other explanation which the Bible does not provide. Logic

1. If you think John 6 is the sole building block of our theology on the matter you are sorely mistaken. 2. All scripture is God breathed and useful for teaching, including John 6. 3. John 6’s meaning is clear and even those who left Jesus understood. They just couldn’t accept it: “this is a hard teaching, who can accept this?” 4. And most importantly, you addressed none of the arguments I made in my prior comment

@ScoutingAlong @GrZmNkY09 @TomorrowsWar Clearly John 6 is a little obtuse for a reason. Jesus is winnowing his followers at this time. It is during this time when he narrowing his focus. Clearly John 6 is not a passage to build an entire theology around the last supper which the Catholic Church has unfortunately done.

Yes we agree That doesn’t mean that’s ALL it is This is a key mistake so many people make in reading any sort of literature let alone the Bible. They take a comment and make the mistake of “If so and so is X, it can’t possibly also be Y” It would be different matter if Paul said “this is only a memorial and nothing more”

@ScoutingAlong @GrZmNkY09 @TomorrowsWar Paul clearly states it is a memorial, a remembrance. verse 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.

The “flesh” references can’t be Jesus’ because His flesh profits us everything. Rather it is our flesh, our worldly desires, like how the Epistles often talk about. Jesus asks the disciples “Does this offend you?” In reference to His words of eating His flesh and drinking His blood. And then he says those words are spirit and life to emphasize that they are rejecting that which is spirit and life. But being spirit and life does not mean it’s solely spiritual matters. Otherwise, Jesus’ other words would have no bearing about physical things which is certainly not the case.

@ScoutingAlong @GrZmNkY09 @TomorrowsWar Key verse - John 6:63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. Jesus clearly tells the disciples here he is talking about spiritual matters.

1. So are you really insinuating that the first time the Lord mentions eating His flesh and the Last Supper where he gives His flesh to eat are not linked? 2. Yeah I agree, read 1 Cor 11 and see how Paul proclaims it is the flesh and blood of our Lord and “27 So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. 28 Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup. 29 For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves. 30 That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep. 31 But if we were more discerning with regard to ourselves, we would not come under such judgment.32 Nevertheless, when we are judged in this way by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be finally condemned with the world.”

@ScoutingAlong @GrZmNkY09 @TomorrowsWar Plot twist, John 6 is not about the last supper and Jesus preached this years before the last supper took place. Now read 1 Corinthians 11 which was a specific (and last) teaching on the last supper (making it most authoritative ) that Paul received directly from the Lord.

What respect have I not afforded to others? The insult is ad hominem because ad hominem is attacking a person rather than the argument Also yeah let’s talk about the “breeder” comment Which again is meant as insult unless I’m much mistaken. Your comment makes no sense on multiple levels: 1. Being sexually attracted to the opposite sex does not mean you necessarily are one to have children. 2. Saying those who have children are “breeders” as some sort of derogatory word is stupid. Would you tell your parents “you’re just a couple of breeders”? 3. If by your comment you meant there are multiple ways to become heterosexually attracted(though I don’t understand why you wouldn’t just say that), I think I could agree. Though I don’t see how this in any way retorts against what I have said.

@ScoutingAlong @Texaggie79 @BreeSolstad @ArielleScarcell You get the same amount of respect you give others And it’s no ad hominem, it’s an insult that directly correlate with your poor socially constructed “reasoning” You have been answered already I told you that there’s different ways to become a breeder - you didn’t like that ans.

I’ve never heard that insult for a brain shape Smooth brain of course, but a flat line? it’s interesting to say the least Anyway, perhaps instead of resorting to ad hominem, which is never a marker of a winning argument, perhaps you could, in your obviously vastly superior mental capacities if your comment holds any truth, formulate a coherent logical argument to object about my values without having to default to insult
